OP: I hope where you took your picture isn't where you'll be parking your car each night.

Honestly, I don't think I could park an e60 m5 on the street - it's just begging to be stolen :/

We talking the silver one in Kerry or the Louth Sepang Bronze?

One in Kerry is still up there but Sepang Bronze is sold - that's one I thought OP might have got.

Sure by the time I get around to buying one I will know about the life of it than the owner:p

Are you people saying that the OPs car is a re-shelled car?

The really cheap one from Louth in Sepang Bronze was reshelled in conlons, It was private sale, then vanished then reappeared in a dealers. I dont know if the OP has that one cant see the reg. There was another sepang bronze on the go around the same time.

Jaysis...where did all this come from.

1 - If Im buying an M5 - I know to do my homework.

I did a v detailed check on history including (specifically) the re-shelling - this was advised by my garage as they were aware of some e60's that underwent this.

2 - Its from a dealership. Its a premium select car and used to be owned by the head of BMW Ireland.

3 - It was not a private sale. And it didn't cost 22k (do I need to say it again..

re: on the street. I've already had my fun with people trying to rob my wheels and the house is like fort knox. Im not worried (whoever is trying breaking in should be though)

What reg did you have on this re-shelled one?

The one linked on that forum has 20k less miles than mine.

So what do we mean by "reshelled" in this sense? I assumed it was rolled in an accident or something, but is that the common meaning?

Transplant engine+suspension+gubbins from one car into the shell of another.

One example was a guy took his e39 M5 insurance write off, bought an e39 540i Touring, and proceeded to turn it into an M5 Estate.

Good stuff but it would be quite a sickener if you went out and bought something like that from a private seller.

I would assume in the case of a rather new M5, the reshell would involve building up the car on a complete new shell from BMW. I dont know how the manufacturers handle the chassis numbers in these cases. Its all official and above board.

Nothing to do with this dispute or anything but just out of pure curiosity! How do you check what IP adress someone is posting from??
The picture I posted up was only a joke, it actually tells you what your own IP is, what browser you're using and what OS you're on :P

The message at the bottom, I put in myself :pac:

I think the mods can IP check though?

Eoin certainly did it anyways, some how.

Both of you have 3 days off. I asked for it to be dropped

Now Im even more interested in this other mystery M5! To convert an e60 540i (or whatever) into an M5 would likely cost more than the current asking price.

The V10 Engine alone is something like EUR17k from BMW + gearbox, some body panels, exhaust, ECU, TCU and a massive labour bill etc.

is that poster not talking about an e39 though?

No, the allegedly reshelled M5 is an e60. Just the example quoted was an e39.

Saw a new chassis arriving in M&G's a few years back that was used to reshell an indianapolis red E60 M5 I believe - €50k's worth of work is economically viable when the car is still worth over €100k I guess!

Back on topic though - the sepang E60 is lovely looking, well worth enjoying as it is for the moment. The wheels are nice too - have seen a few on the M6 wheels which look a bit manky imo.

Lovely car, take care of her. What year is she and how did you get the full 2 year warranty?

2005. Warranty - they were offering it from the start so no complaints. They were confident the car was 100%

A full 2 year dealer warranty on a 2005 M5 really is a valuable thing to have. That certainly takes the fear out of owning one.

OP - your pic looks like a black interior; can't make out properly with light but looks black?

One linked above in Athlone is cream interior:confused:

    Its cream - not black.

Are you trying to catch me out or something?

Not much will be catching you in an M5 TBH! ;)

People are just alittle suspicious. You will understand that there is most likely only 2 of that colour for sale, One was dodgy, the other fine. To be fair, if you had unknowingly bought the crashed one, you would not admit it here. Lovely car though and with that much warranty and good history you cannot go wrong.

And I think you can keep renewing the warranty for a very reasonable rate, as long as the car is serviced by BMW - some other T&Cs apply too. Or is this option not available in Ireland?

its available, about 2-4k to renew each year. car has to have Full Service History to BMW spec/recommendations to continue.

Edit - just found out from an E60 owner that the warranty varies depending on level of cover from anywhere between 2 and 4k per year.
