Gonna be tough letting go of this one. Probably tougher than any show I've watched in 'real' time.

The end is upon us, this will be tough...hopefully sent off in fine fashion.

A truely stunning piece of tv!, on every level...from script, acting, cinematograpy and editing....the music was just superb!

It had everything you could want, family, love and most important...heart. Eric really struggled with his decision but he made the right decision and went to Philly with his wife, seeing the pain on Tammy' face as she strugled to be happy for Eric and staying in Dillion choked me up, i think the fans will be most pleased with all the resulutions in this ep.

Most of the major plotpoints we thought would come to pass did, but it's the journey of these characters in this majestic 106 mins of television that is most important. An utterly superb end to a superb series, i'm sure i'll have further reflection as i plan to watch it again.

I teared up many times during this finale, it was an utter pleasure to watch one of the finest shows on tv.

Is this the last episode ever or just the end of the season? Ever one getting very dramatic if its just the end of the season, so I'm guessing its the last one ever and if so :(

    :(:(:(
All over now, they wrapped it up well with a top finale. Texas Forever

Season 1 was still the best imo.
I was counting the days until they had the season two boxset for Season 2 back then.
Reading somewhere that that Smash got into trouble and cursing myself for reading that spoiler

    :(
In 22 years no tv show has had me waiting for the next episode quite like this one.

So long Friday Night Lights, it's been great.

Another quality show finishes up :( Everything was done really well. It was good they threw in
Luke joining the army because it reflects the real lifes of guys like the character.
Coach & Mrs T best couple on TV by a mile.

Always thought Luke was heading for a top college even after what happened at TMU

Sure his teammates raved about him at the Panthers before he moved to the Lions over that fake address issue in Season 4.
And in the end all he got a useless D3 college offer.

I like FNL for reflecting reality, that option he took is an option for many school leavers

I'm really lost for words. That was the best finale to the best show I've ever watched. Practically ever scene had me either smiling uncontrollably or nearly crying. Can't believe I won't see more of Coach and Tami. Texas Forever!

Will you take me to Philadelphia with you? - Coach and Tami are one of the best couples ever on TV

I'm really happy about Matt and Julie's engagement

    Absolutely awesome.

That's the tear ducts dried up for the rest of the year anyway.

    Best series finale ever?

It was a flawless finale imo, even from the technical aspects....the way they did the final game in almost silence, and Texas honoured FNL by turning out in force to fill the stands.

I was actually wondering how they shot those match scenes.

I loved how the actual football took quite a bit of a back seat throughout the entire finale. They could nearly have gotten away with not showing the game at all but instead, even after all these years, found a way to show the match in a new, interesting and non-cliched way.

There was an open casting call on all the local dallas radio stations when i was living there. The cottonbowl is a huge thing to dallas people, so proud of it so to have a chance to go to it and be a part of something important there meant the turn out was massive

I'm an emotional wreck after watching that...phenomenal TV, the best finale I could have possibly envisaged and I'm just so sad it's over now really :(

Gonna watch it again tomorrow and post some more lucid thoughts i think.

Coach Taylor is one of TV's great characters and should be recognised as such. Kyle Chandler is an acting God.

    Texas Forever...

Yeah I thought that was rather strange myself.

It was a fantastic finale though. It actually felt more to me like a great film then an a network TV show, you can easily watch it w/o ever having seen an episode and appreciate the quality of every aspect, fantastic direction, acting and cinematography.

Loved the finale- so well done in every aspect. I think I'm gonna have to start from season one again. its prob the only show i can think of where the last season was still amazing tv to watch

That finale was perfection. I can't imagine a way that it could have been any better. I cried solidly from the moment that Vince told Coach that he'd changed his life, and didn't stop until the very end. Every end to every character's story was fitting and wholly satisfying. I loved the way that they shot the game. And that shot of Jason Street's name on the wall of the Panthers dressing room... SOB.

It was just perfect. I can't think of another show that has left me so delighted with its finale.

Dont want to rain on everyone's parade here but...

I loved the show, thought it was up there with the best of anything in recent years

I did have a few issues with the last few episodes though
Luke Cafferty goes from hot shot star to joining the army?
Tyra rocks back into town only to hook up with rigins? What about Landry? doesn't he get a look in after all they went through?
I didn't buy how vince's dad turned into angry drunk man all of a sudden.
A piece of me was hoping to see "The Smash" return
I think I'm more of a fan of the earlier seasons, I felt like we knew the characters so much better.

Maybe they're minor issues above... but you can't deny it was on of the best shows of the last ten years.

I'm wondering will it be a new "The Wire" Remember how critics went crazy for that after it finished?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Luke joining the army made alot of sense, guys like him are dime a dozen in Texas, few options open to them, the Army i guess can provide a scholarship etc.

I kinda agree about Vince's dad turning on a dime, but he was deadbeat...but he'd been turning out to be an ass all season. Tyra was always Riggins' girl...as she said herseld she'd been in love with him since she was 5 (?), Landry was the go-to guy while Riggins was off with Streets' bird.

Wasn't the actor who played Smash in some kind of legal trouble?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭QikBax

As far as Smash goes the actor has apparently left acting behind and joined a seminary.

Would've been nice to see Mama Smash again though. She was so good.

And Matt Lauria who played Luke was born and went to school in Ireland. Nice to have one of our own in it.

it was a great ending. Pity its finished, theres so much crap on the tv and this is by far better.

Still surprised by Luke tho. Anyway clear eyes
