Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) and Taylor Kitsch (Tim) have finalized deals to appear in multiple episodes of the drama’s fifth and final season.
Palicki will guest in next season’s last two episodes, while Kitsch has signed on for the final four.
Zach Gilford (Matt), is returning for four episodes (including the finale). Gilford’s onscreen BFF, Jesse Plemons, is also in talks to appear in the swan song. Scott Porter’s coming back for episode 7.

No news on Minka Kelly (Lyla) coming back yet

^ Minka will show up i'm sure...she appeared in two episodes in season 4, the show launched her career ffs....she owes FNL at least an apperance in the finale.

A lovely interview with Kyle and Connie...the banter is great, they sound like a real life married couple! :-)

Smash will not be back for the fifth and final season, and, according to exec producer Jason Katims, creative and scheduling considerations came into play. “It was a combination of [Gaius'] availability and the storytelling,” he tells me. “With only 13 episodes, we ended up having to pick and choose which stories and characters to service. The story drives everything. We didn’t want to bring [alums] back just to bring them back. We wanted to make sure we had a good story for them.” That said, Katims says Smash is “referenced” in one of the episodes. “We find out how he’s doing in school.”

I'm sure you guys know by now, but there'll be no Lyla in the final season. They thought her last appearance wrapped her story up nicely and to bring her back wouldn't really serve any real purpose.
I'm a bit worried about this new season, because I don't really care for any of the new kids, other than Luke. I could tolerate them last season because we still had Riggins and Matt, but without them this season I wonder if I'll care.

Can't wait, although I stockpile FNL so I can watch in one go, so won't be popping in here for any updates until it's all over. :)

Season 5 kicked off last night, reviews are out an ep. as well :-)

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/10/friday-night-lights-season-5-episode-1-expectations.html

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/news/a284738/connie-britton-explains-fnl-finale.html

Connie Britton has described the series finale of Friday Night Lights as "quite perfect".

Britton, who plays Tami Taylor, claimed that the last three episodes of the show are "incredibly special" and "are going to be extraordinary moments in television".

She also revealed that the finale will be a mixture of resolution and unanswered questions.

"The goal really was to give the audience a sense of where every character would be going," she told the New York Post. "Not in an overly neat way. I think there will be a lot of questions left hanging but you will also see the next trajectory for each one of these characters.

"It's that beautiful thing where on one hand you're saying goodbye, but on the other, you're wondering where they're going next. I think it's quite perfect."

The final season of Friday Night Lights airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on DirecTV.

Just watched the new episode. Man I've missed this show. Everything about it is just brilliant, the way it's shot, the script, the scenery, everything!!

Everything apart from Becky that is. Man she get's on my nerves. All her stuff seems so seperate from everything else that going on, it takes me out of the show a bit.

I'm considering not watching anymore of it until the seasons over and then mainlining it all, I don't know.

Billy and Mindy are a good enough link to Riggins for me. Plus, Becky caused all that hassle for Mrs. Coach last year, so I stand by my statement :D

Becky is stunning, she just has this super HOT look about her!, very solid season opener. Nice to see Riggins and Cruicavictorious. The family dynamic of the Taylor family is one of best best ever on tv!

It'll be sad to see this one go, a very under appreciated tv show.

Ep. 2 and 3 were top notch as usual, some very good acting from that black footballer kid, the scene in coaches office was intense, his scenes with his dad. That redhead girl...Maura, i have a weakness for reheads but this girl is OFF DA HOOK!

The latest ep. was great, it was a total change of pace...loads of humour and banter, a drunk coach calling his wife and asking what she's wearing, lol!

While the very odd time you'd get some humour....this is the most i've seen in a single ep. and it was great for it, pretty dramatic scene when the wife caught up with Julie o confront her about the affair!

    Lovin' the series thus far.

Season 4 episode "The Son" voted #1 TV episode of 2010 by time magazine. Great to see what I consider the best show on tv getting some recognition.

Been a big fan of the show since Season 1.
Have the boxsets for Seasons 1,2 & 3

Scott Porter (QB Jason Street) makes a return in the latest episode.
    Nice to see him back.

Kepping up, saw ep. 6/7 a few days ago....ep. 6 especially i thought was the strongest of the season, in both story and acting. Julie Taylor has gone right off the rails....but it's YET another student/teacher relationship on tv....a definate trend.

However unlike the others, this one is played out and written with negative consequences, showing how such behaviour can destroy a once sweet girl and family dynamic.

FNL returns January 4th for ep. 8!, FNL also made Ken Tuckers best of 2010 list, along with Pretty Little Liars:

Great recognition for a great episode from a great series :)

Latest episode was excellent, seems to be setting coach up for a big move to end the series, which would be fitting.

Also, Jason Street is epically cool

Ep. 8 was solid as per usual, great to see Matt/Zach Gilford in the final shot.....him and Julie are destined to end up together, i don't think she's gotten over Matt. Maura made a brief apperance...the saucy minx!

Only five eps. left - this is a show you Boardsies NEED to give a chance!

Yeah agreed, that teacher dude was such a drip...such a step down from my boy Saracen

The Coach/Vince's dad power struggle is great TV, great acting by both with Vince and a whole football team in the middle.

Only a few episodes left now :(

Just finished catching up with episodes 4-8 of this.

I don't see how this hasn't gotten more of a following, it's great.

    My thoughts:

The Julie-Teaching Assistant plot: When he said he was married I knew things where going downhill...*Enter moody teen. stage Left*. Best thing about it was opening the door for Matt to be brought back in.

The Vince-Vince's Dad-Coach line. I want to see how this on plays out. One one hand you have Vince's Dad the good guy who is out of jail, clean from drugs and making everything happy families again. Even risking his parole or terms of release to take care of the guy vince owes money to.
But on the other hand it's obvious that he is just in it for the money Vince will get from the football. It'll be interesting to see which side of him comes through or if Vince will continue being a Mé Féiner or do whats best for the team/coach.

Billy Riggins gets character of the series for me :D . As the special teams coach and when he is training Luke to get into another college (and the whole "Mrs Riggins works at the landing strip? What Days?? Does she still work there?? :D:D. Trying to fix the bus himself instead of calling AAA. The scene pre-game speech he gave when Eric was late

And good for you Mindy, hearts in the right place even if the advice may not be. Now all I need is a bunch of strippers telling me what to do with my life :P

    Only five more weeks :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

Another great episode this week...even if the last minute wins are becoming ridiculously regular, you've gotta love them all the same :D

Loving The National being used in the soundtrack, I think that's at least twice this season...great band

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,455 ✭✭✭davetherave

I was a bit dissapointed with this weeks episode. It didn't seem to progress anywhere

The Julie line didn't really do anything, right we get it, her and Matt still have feelings for each other. Matt is still the nice guy and gets her to go back to college

Vince: Yeah he got dropped for being a dick, and Coach gave 44 the nod instead...no one saw that coming

Becky: Suprise, suprise, hanging around an army of strippers has made her start waiting tables at the strip joint.

Epic: So she lied to Mrs Coach about the foster home, and now it's come back and bitten her in the ass and she's been ship out a new place.

Vince's Dad: Regarding my post two above, yup he's definitley taken the role of d!ck

Ahh I dunno, maybe I'll watch it again in a few days and it'll change my mind but I wasn't really impressed with it this week for some reason. :(

Also, :D @ Billy putting the preggers test in his mouth.

^ i thought it was on par with the rest of the season, clearly the two big plotpoints this season is Julie and the triangle battle of coach Taylor/vinca and his dad. It's obvious now the season finale will entail the Lions winning state, Taylor faimly going off to coach college football and Julie n Matt 4Ever!

It was a consistent episode overall, i think we have a couple more guest stars to come, Adrienne Paladicki, is Smash coming back?

    Only four left!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Richard, I specifically didn't read posts about who was going to be coming back to appear in the final few episodes before the season started.

And I'm glad I avoided them as I got the full effect of the "Matt opening the door to Julie" scene as I really didn't expect it.

Could you please refrain from posting up who else is returning from the show? You've only got 4 episodes to get through without the need to dicuss your your little tidbits of breaking gossip so it shouldn't be too hard.

Per the charter, we're allowed to say and discuss who will guest star, but not discuss plot points reated to those guest stars. But i'll alert the mods and have them make a decision.

I knew Matt was guest starring, but i had no idea which ep. or at what point....i also had a big smile when i saw him at the end, knowing he was guest starring didn't take anything away.

IN FACT....if you watched the episode, the opening credits CLEARLY stated Matt Gilford was guest starring, i mean....any reasonable person could hardly complain the credits spoiled it for them, could they?

    Regarding above:

Anything related to future episodes / plot points / appearances HAVE to be put in spoiler tags (and a warning if possible).

Only what's happening currently in US airings can be discussed without spoiler tags.

    Yes, I win!!!

Luckily for me, I didn't notice his name in the opening credits.

Obviously it's not a big deal but I can't see anything wrong with discussing future appearances within spoiler tags and mentioning it too.

Yes.. especially when it relates to returning actors / characters etc.

Put simply - anything that's set to happen in future episodes (plotlines / returning characters / episode descriptions / titles etc) needs to be spoilered, even in a thread marked spoilers.

Well quite a few shows would refrain from mentioning the return of certain actors during the credits as they don't want to spoil the reveal for anyone.

Do you not see how it's an issue though? Once you say Matt Gilford is returning it automatically gives an indication as to what way the plot is headed.

And I'd rather be oblivious to these little signposts in a show I love so much.

Bit of a spoiler but obvious none the less.
When i was living in dallas last year there was a call on the radio stations for people to turn up to the cotton bowl for filming of friday night lights so state champs is a given obviously enough

Riggins.....:( , he looked totally defeated by his stint in prison, he still holds his brother responsible. Very anti climatic return home, good to see him again but it was a real downer.

Coach Taylor's speech at the end was superb, dunno if he'll stay in Dillon though....that offer from college seemed sweet!, Vince's dad has turned into a real douche, messing up his chances.

The thing with FNL is it's RARE you find a filler episode, the quality is consistent throughout, only three more left :(

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Ep. 11 was a bit of a mixed bag, imo i thought it was one of the weaker eps. of the season - it just seemed to blow through events quickly, like they needed to rush through a series of games to get to the semi final, and Riggin's plotline seemed wasted....he's a changed man, he holds his brother responsible.

But it just seemed badly laid out, and then he just upped and left?....felt very rushed and unresolved. Then in one ep. Vince's dad is back on the booze and selling drugs. It just seemed like a rushed ep. setting up events for the final two eps.

Pretty sure now Tammy will take that job and eric will get a college coaching job, with East and west Dillion merging and him not having a budget no reason for coach to stick around.

We have two left, i guess the semi and then state champiobship game, half an ep. of final goodbye's etc. - i'm getting a little sad :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I loved it, thought it was a cracking episode.

And they're already in the state final.

So build up, part of game then second part of game, aftermath.

I'm little bit disagree with your reviews. According to me, Ep.11 is great and I don't think so what are you saying. Well forget about it, It was a turning of this show and I'm very excited what happening in Friday Night Lights season 5 episode 12, I hope it will be as interesting and fantastic as previous episodes. I hope this upcoming episode will be satisfy you... :)

Superb ep. last night directed by Kyle Chandler, it's great to see Tyra back along with Matt. Riggins+Tyra?....hope so, Julie+Matt?....definately?, coach moving to Philly?....hell yes!

He got kicked in the nuts by Dillion and budget cuts, they broke his heart....i think Tami will win this fight and coach Taylor will move for her new job. So many great highpoints, such a quality show...it'll be sad when the final episode airs next Wednesday, but i think the fans will be happy and resolutions aplenty.
