Do you remember how you felt when you left home for the first time?

I remember feeling so sad leaving my Dad on his own*. He raised us and I was the last to leave. I cried for days and the guy I moved in with was so happy to get away from his narky cow of a mother that he was amazed by my tears. I missed my Dad's fabulous meals, his stimulating conversations and amazing sense of humour.

How did you feel and did you miss anything?

*incidentially, he is now shacked up with a French Chick who's younger than me, so he's never been happier!

I was free from the wretched constraints of those cursed apron strings. A few years later I had to move home after being laid off but I quickly left again...........if I didn't one of us was leaving in a body bag :pac:

I do miss my dog though, loveable mutt.

Loopy i was in the same boat so i know how you felt !! My old man raised 3 of us on his own and this was back in the 80's when things were a little tougher but i always felt he was more like a bigger brother than a father. Felt awful leaving home at the age of 18 (the first week was dreadful) never felt so alone in all my life OR BROKE

He's a looker, and he's obsessed with anything French.
So one day he's having a few pints in the boozer on a Sunday morning listening to a Jazz Band while waiting on his mate's. The French chick was walking past the pub, heard the music and rambled in (she was feeling very depressed as she was homesick and had just moved here from Galway where she had lost her job). She like's older men - they caught each other's eye and she went over to him. Once he heard 'Allo', that was it - they were both smitten.

I did it kind of gradually. When I was 18 I moved into the garage converted into a granny flat and was there til I was 24 when I moved in with a gf. It didn't feel that strange just felt a bit bad for leaving my Mam down rent I was paying, but I couldn't stay there forever.

When I first left home, I lived in on-campus accommodation at college. My parents dropped me off, helped me unpack my stuff. My mum did some emotional stuff, and as soon as they left, I watched their car drive away and texted my boyfriend at the time, "Yeah, you can come over now, I'm finally alone!". Felt pretty great tbh.

She was, and since then my sister has moved back with her 2 kids. She's always complaining but I know she'd be lost if they weren't there. Still try and come up with excuses to give her money every now and then though, she's proud so I have to be more and more elaborate.

Moved in and out of home good few times now over the years. Happy as Larry leaving each time:D

Love my family but can't beat being on your own two feet too.

Next move I make will be into my own rented place no more sharing.

I left home at 18 to study in London. Initially I was sad to leave home.

But within a couple of days I quickly realised it was great to be able to leave the house without having to ask (normally I'd be required to mind younger siblings/ clean the hovel), only have to tidy up after myself, go to bed when I wanted and have total peace and quiet while studying. It was bliss!

I never officially moved out, so there was no great moment where it dawned on me that I had fled the nest.

Basically, when I was 17, I went on a holiday to Spain & loved it so much, that I didn't come back for 3 years.

By the time I came back I was well used to feeding myself, so I never moved back home.
