I'll ask her when I get back home! I reckon they're like her old cookbooks though, couldn't part with them!

She made her own debs dress from one of books :)

    That's deadly :)

Just finished up this one, ignore the wrinkles, I'm very lazy.. and I hate ironing

    147218.jpg

    and finishing up this tomorrow...

    147219.jpg

this one was just a flared wool skirt from H&M (3 euro in the charity shop) and I gathered the the four seams at the ends to make the hem scalloped, secured with thread and attached the lace bows. I also had to shorten the hem of the slip to stop it showing at the gathered sections. Then I just removed the belt and belt loops and attached 4 layers of different lace along the top. Easy peasy, cost about a tenner altogether.

    Sh*te pics though, sorry!

Great work Sapsorrow, love what you did with the grey skirt. I've always wanted to learn to make my own clothes...some day!

 See if she wants to sell them! ;)

Hi Sapsorrow Ive had some good luck on specailistauctions.com recently and got a couple of lots of amazing vintage patterns - the modern ones are so crap in comparison.
    8keo.jpg
This lot cost me €16 including delivery.

The only thing is that the site is not as well run as ebay so I havent been able to pay one of the sellers so god knows if I will get them - Ive seen some really cheap ones on there though.

Ebay is excellent too - the problem for me is sourcing reasonably priced fabric - Hickeys prices are prohibitive - I bought four metres of fabric on ebay recently which cost me €17 and I ended up kinda mad at myself cos the postage was so dear but one metre of the same stuff in Hickeys was €9.95. I think Im going to have to take a day trip to London!

^ They're all so pretty! I love the hair thing in the 1st pic :)

Did a nice bit of shopping yesterday, thought I'd treat myself!

Got a bag <3333 and a pair of Vans in Schuh. The Vans were €45 and the bag was on sale for €20 :D

And this skirt in Forever 21 - their plus size stuff is lovely!

Got a few other bits as well but I couldn't find pix of them. My grant will be spent before I know it :o

Ooh lovely patterns, especially the fifties ones!

I know the fabric is the big problem isn't it! If you are ever in Cork we have a good (and huge) discount craft and book shop called vibes and scribes that mainly specialises in dressmaking stuff and fabric. All the fabrics I've bought there were 6.99 a metre but they're very light weight cotton so not really ideal for anything other than quilting, or just using bits of for embellishing, the heavier ones start at 9.99 a metre. I'm still on the look out for a good European online seller to buy from because as much as I love Etsy shipping from the US is outrageous! I think a trip to London is on the books for me too, I wonder would driving over be the best option for carrying lots of fabric back?

They really really are, anything from the 80's upwards is fairly horrific :D

Love, love all your patterns Sapsorrow:) And the 2 skirts you made are just beautiful. Jealous - would love to be able to sew.
Just back from Midleton and got "yes to carrots" day and night cream for €7.47 for the 2 in Sam McCauley. Delighted, although have never used yes to carrots before but reviews seem good online and a bargain price too.

Been buying mainly in charity shops recently and am too lazy to take pictures, I seem to be hemorrhaging money these days.

Just won this on eBay, £7 incl postage. It's meant to be a dark green, I like the collar, not sure what it will be like in person, but I'll resell it if it doesn't suit! Avoca, 100% Irish wool.

Bad picture of a great denim shirt, that i got in Salvation Army for £3 and have been wearing fairly consistently since.

Model's Own Gold Rush and black Model's Own kohl pencil for £8 incl postage. This polish is like liquid gold, I've wanted it for ages!

And a Tatty Devine fox necklace I can't find pictures of just now.

I've been looking at that nail varnish for a while now, but I keep hesitating as I'm worried it'll look cheapy - is it nice on?? I love the Model's Own green colours, I've been wearing them non-stop recently! It's great Boots has the brand now but why is it a euro cheaper in River Island?!

I bought a beautiful dress by Irish brand The Laundry Room in BT today on a whim but it was only €45! I have to have a look at their other stuff, does anyone know if it's sold online?

If you can nab a cheap flight on Ryanair, bring a rucksack. You'd get a lot of fabric in. Hop on the tube and out to the fabric shops on Goldhawk Road. You won't be disappointed. Guaranteed! I've bought so much fabric there

Great, no better excuse for a trip needed then! Could you recommend any particular shops or warehouses? I wouldn't know where to start!

Did a trawl of the charity shops today, I'm trying to start hoarding loot to upcycle.

    147309.jpg

Found this pink satin skirt (3 euro), to which I plan on adding a layer of ruffled powder blue silk (pictured), again gathering the edges of the blue lace to scallop the edges. I plan on taking the bottom tier off the skirt and adding a load of cream lace along the hem and I'll embellish the hell out of the rest of the skirt with little satin flowers, off white and lilac lace, pearl buttons etc etc.. when I have all the basic stitch work done. I'll post again in a few weeks when it's done :)

Also found the top (2 euro, new with tags) and lilac wool shawl (1 euro, new with tags) on the mannequinn.

And I got a deadly black and white gingham puffball dress for a fiver, not sure what I'll do with it yet but shouldn't take much effort to make it really funky.

So happy! I wanted this Beth Ditto dress for months but it was out of stock! But now as I was browsing the Evans sale not only did it come back in stock (only in my size - fate!) but it was reduced to 15 quid! :DD:

Dying to get down to Cork and find these bargain charity shops!! The last time i was home they were such a disappointment and they can be quite expensive around here! It's about £8 for dresses and they're years old Topshop!

I bought it online for £5 and got the eyeliner free as it was my first purchase. Delivery is £3.

Anyway, to answer your question, google the shade and it'll be on a few blogs. That's where it first caught my eye, I don't think it looks cheap at all and I've worn some woeful golds in the past!

I got a pair of shoes similar to these in Pennys last month for about 12 euro (can't remember exactly). They go very nicely with a green dress I got a present of :)

Sorry, didn't have a picture of the exact pair, but these are very similar.

Millions of pretty buttons from Etsy..

    147366.jpg

    147367.jpg

Got 350 or so buttons for about 5 cents each with postage. I went looking for buttons in the craft and fabric shops today and any half decent ones started at 40 cents each for a small one! Thank god for internet shopping! :) I'm going to be changing the buttons on literally everything I own in a couple of weeks :D

Do I'd love if you came to stay with me for a few days and I can give ya the royal tour! ;) Some of them down here can be pricey but I can usually to find at least one or two bargains worth having in any of them, I'm had enough practice at this stage :D

The Cork Button Company on one of the quays may be a bit cheaper, but that place is worth visiting just to look at, a tiny room wall to wall with buttons, it's really pretty! Owners are nice too.

If you wanted to get really DIY with it you could make your own buttons with polymer clay. There's some basic info here that pertains to bead making but it's the same process. I've never tried it but my sister has made some really lovely stuff. She made these earrings:

    EE97FE93CB734A8AAFC4CFF0973F0FC5-0000329149-0002159289-00240L-00000000000000000000000000000000.jpgE02BE6A4BC7E48A28EE8061E7A343E2B-0000329149-0002159288-00240L-00000000000000000000000000000000.jpg

I'd say it'd be a fun way to jazz up fairly mediocre cardigans and such!

Oh, and my favourite Cork charity shops are the two on Princes Street, but I don't think any match the SVP in Galway, that place rules.

Couldn't find anything to match the Irregular choice shoes. I ordered this from Modcloth they are not similar but both quite unique and I think it works. No more shopping for a year :o:)
