Nitelink to be stopped after february

My uncle is an inspector with dublin bus and he recently told me that after february there'll be no more nitlelink buses on any routes. He said the cost of fuel and wages plus the added hassle with drunken people has led them to this decision. I personally get the 67N after nights out in town and it's always packed so i can't imagine how they aren't making money on that particular route. As for worrying about dealing with drunken people that just strikes me as sheer unwillingness to provide a service to genuine people on the basis of a few bad experiences. I haven't found any confirmation of this on the web but he was pretty vehement that there will be no more nitelinks from march onwards!

What if ya need to score some drugs on the other side of de city and you can't get a taxi to stop cos yis are with Anto and he looks like a scumbag?

the Uni/castletroy bus to and from the city in limerick isnt running after 9 o clock anymore from now on because of hassle with drunk people and lack of people on it.
if you arrive to the station later than 9 now it means its an extra 10er for a taxi out to your accommodation.

I can't imagine CIE ever making a bob. I think it needed €80m last year to keep going.

Surely this is an opportunity for a private company willing to put up with the drunken people to do it? As you said it's making money
I've always wondered why nightclubs/bus companies aren't doing this, the Wright venue in swords does it to certain places, 5er a head.
Surely a lot could be made from this sort of thing, for example buses at set times to/from college accommodations to nightclubs.

The NiteLink is great, I have 2 that pass near me.

I've never experience any trouble whatsoever on one. It's usually people on their own, who can't justiy a taxi.

The Nitelink is a rip off anyway. There should just be a half-hourly or even hourly night-service like a normal capital city.

    Still cheaper than a taxi.

Taxi Drivers. Get your cars ready. You may actually have some work to do.

This won't happen. They can't close town at 11 on a Saturday. Thats madness.

It's been operating at a loss for a very long time.

    OP,

In regards to 67N, they aren't judging just 1 route if they are going to pull the Nitelink service based on that. it will be overall performance of the service.

TBH, it think it's nuts, because in big cities in other countries, they've got some form of public transport running 24 / 7.

If this goes ahead I'll be raging. I live in Leixlip and my taxi costs €30, 6 times the Nitelink fare. I go out with people who live nowere near me. Brilliant news, bad enough they only run two days a week, and they already pulled the last one. I've been getting the 66N for 5 years, usually the 4 or old half 4 one, no trouble worth writing about. The, 67N, 33N, 46N, 39N, 7N and 77N should be kept going. A few others could be combined and the 66N/67N could be like they used to do midweek, also acting as a 25N.

And certainly not Dublin either :( Stupid bloody public transport closing down just cos it gets a bit dark. Barcelona, for example, not even a capital city, has 24 hour metros every saturday night, and around public holidays e.g. new years eve etc. you know, like when people might like to go out a bit later than usual.

Amsterdam has night busses every day of the week

Our fcukin trams don't even meet in the middle :(

    Taxi drivers will be pleased

    Pubs/clubs won't be.

There's no way I'd be going into town as much if there is no nitelink. 25-30 euro on a taxi home instead of 5, not gonna happen.

Ahh that's a shame. It is my only chance to interact with real people. And by real people, I mean drunks. And by interact I mean sit and stare out of the window for the whole journey and hope they don't try and talk to me.

perhaps if they changed the terms and conditions on the ticket so that they could spend the extra money people spend on tickets and never collect, it might help out.
