just about the only thing i remember from reading "a brief history of almost everything" is that if you shrunk each of all the known (afaik, i'm assuming it's an estimate) galaxies down to the size of a pea, they would completely fill the royal albert hall, floor to ceiling.

just did a quick google and they estimate that our galaxy has about 4.6 billion planets in it, so, i believe the correct scientific term for the amount of planets in the known universe is a fcuktonne! :)

EDIT: might have to try and dig the book out tonight to make sure its right. :)

If you imagine each single atom to be the size of a football pitch, then the nucleas would be roughly the size of an apple on the centre circle...

So if you consider that the nucleas is the only part of the atom that contains matter...

It means that everything in the the universe, including our own bodies...

    are just 99.99% empty space!

I presume thats without the 1 thousand 9 hundred years leading up to the year of your birth?

    I'm 23 and was born in 1988.. 23 + 1988 = 2011 duh.

    23 + 88 though

Works this year, cause it's 2011, next year it'll be 112, 113 the year after and so on...

It's like saying your full year of birth plus you age this year = the current calendar year.

You only breathe through one nostril at any one time. The nostrils do not both take in air together, rather the left will do the work for between 40 minutes to a few hours and then the right takes over the job.

This is why people with heavy colds often experience periods of improved air intake through their nostrils, one nostril is less blocked than the other and this more open nostril has taken over breathing duty.
