I need to find an alternative to my everyday work handbag. I walk to work so something that can go on both shoulders would be great. I don't need anything big - just the usual room for handbag stuff plus a small thermos flask and lunch box.

Does anyone for any suggestions for something that wouldn't look like I was about to Ho on a hike!I suppose a cross between a hand bag and a back pack

    I use a satchel most days; here's mine! http://bit.ly/aS8pxd

I know you said you want something for both shoulders, but unless this is overpacked it doesn't strain my back at all. I usually carry wallet, phone, notebook, diary, thermos, small lunchbox and maybe a bottle of water.

I agree with the other posters suggestion or else you can get leather handbag style bags that you can wear as a back pack. I got mine in a leather shop in Cork but have seen them in TK Maxx.

Keep your eye on Debenhams as well as they often them as well.

I love those leather satchels and really want one, but you'd carry as much and look more professional I think with something like this, http://www.oasis-stores.com/Rianna-Rivet-Leather-Tote/Bags/oasis/fcp-product/5320027501 ??

I don't know if you can get something to sit on both shoulders and look work appropriate. If you want to wear a backpack, I'd say a discrete backpack would look better then a backpack trying to look like a handbag. That's just how I feel about them though, might not be the general consensus!

I got this really cute backpack in Topshop the other day, it's brown leather and it's really nice. Plenty of space, loads of pockets. I can't find any pictures of it online, but they have them in store at the moment they're lovely.
