it has tara written but its still in meath and the same size as it is now. Tara was long gone by the time the counties were drawn up

Still strange to have it in there. I want one with Tir Na nOg

    Pity you didn't do English.

OP - why exactly does the map have to have the counties in irish? is it an Irish lesson (in which case fair enough) or is it geography?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Your English grammar and punctuation are atrocious. I would not hire you as a teacher of any language.

Anyway, to answer your question, here is a map of Ireland and Scotland in Irish and Scottish Gaelic.
    um Tí Eoghan is tyrone.

    "Tí Eoghan" means "Owen's House".

It is "Tír Eoghan", meaning "Owen's Land".

The location of counties is now purely a linguistic exercise...?

OP, to be fair, this is th 21st Century. No one uses maps any more, I would be more inclined to give them each a Tom Tom with Irish language directions!

I assumed Wikipedia has the correct spelling.

    Irish.jpg

Right click on the link above and save to your desktop.

Open the jpg in Microsoft Paint.

Go to File - Page Setup.
Under Paper make sure size is set to A4.
Under Scaling select Fit To 1 by 1 pages.

Go to File - Print Preview.
If it looks OK then press Print.

When did Donegal become Dún na nGall? it was Tír Chonaill in my day!

Doesn't matter but we all could get a map in irish by googling 'map of ireland as gaeilge' faster than the OP could post

Actually, it's not that easy to search for a suitable map.
Most of the maps found with those search terms or similar search terms are either blank or as Béarla.

This one is not suitable as it uses the old alphabet:
    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KUm00NxS5XQ/TJeoMKyTz5I/AAAAAAAADs0/1j0LZMrDEbk/s1600/IrelandEireMapGaelic.gif

This one does not give the counties of Northern Ireland:
    http://europa.eu/abc/maps/members/ireland_en.htm

These two are not the type of maps required:
    http://www.gaelicabc.com/maps-in-irish
    http://www.bartholomewmaps.com/gaelic/test_mapping_150px.asp?pid=1275&id=map&xcoord=1650&ycoord=2850&xreal=1350&yreal=3750&idx=277653#demo

This one is excellent, and I think it may have been specially made for this thread. It's exactly what is needed:
    http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x480/YoureATowel/Irish.jpg

This interactive map is also very useful if you have an electronic whiteboard or a computer:
    http://scoilnet.magicstudio.co.uk/interactive/view/10690?from=library&return_to=%2Frepository%2Fbrowse%3Fcopyright_holder%3DMartina%2BHearne%26page%3D3
You can click on any county to see the spelling (in both forms, e.g. "Gaillimh" and "Contae na Gaillimhe") and hear the pronunciation.

    Bring them in this map.

    http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps/pacific/australia/map_of_australia.jpg

Make them aware that there is a distinct possibility that they may end up here when they leave school as our economy will still be screwed when they do. You could bring in a map of the U.K, Canada or the U.S. That'll work just as well.

Gently remind them that they won't need any irish and the language they are speaking now will do them fine.

    Will give it a go.
Easiest by province, will prob struggle with Leinster

Ulster - easy being an Ulsterman
    Donegal
    Cavan
    Monaghan
    Derry
    Antrim
    Down
    Armagh
    Fermanagh
    Tyrone

    Connacht
    Sligo
    Roscommon
    Mayo
    Galway
    Longford

    Munster
    Cork
    Kerry
    Tipperary
    Limerick
    Clare
    Waterford

    Leinster
    Leitrim
    Meath
    Westmeath
    Wexford
    Offaly
    Louth
    Dublin
    Wicklow
    Kilkenny
    Waterford
    Laois
    Carlow

    Not 100% on leitrim/longford
