Anyone know how much it costs to replace the locks on a VW Golf 05

Car was stolen and recovered. Thieves still have the key, we have the spare.

Need to replace the locks and Insurance company will cover up to 750euro

Don't know much about VW immobilisers, but you may be able to get the missing key coded out of the system. They can do this with any BMW produced in the last 15 years, but not 100% sure about VW.

If they code the stolen key out, It would still open the doors and stuff though...

I guess we will have to get the door locks changed and the ignition changed otherwise we would have two keys one for doors and other for ignition.

Yea some people just get the key coded out. Even if they can open a door, not much they can do. So yea they can gain access to your car, but so could anyone with a brick!

You'd be looking at new door locks, new ignition barrel, all new keys & new immobiliser unit (i would guess). And programming of the new keys to the central locking system. + Labour to fit all that. You could ring VW to find out, but i can't see it being less than 1K (purely made up figure).

I was guessing over 1k for all the work involved.

It really annoys me that some little fu**er can steal your car and the law abiding insurance paying driver is left out of pocket.

    New house locks
    New car locks
    Car Hire
Stolen items from within the car
    Cash

All these things that have left me out of pocket because Insurance doesn't cover or only partially covers them. Its very frustrating.
