Much as I hate to admit it I always find myself telling little white lies on the internet

Not big whoppers (mostly) but an occasional exaggeration here and there:rolleyes:

Is there anybody out there who can honestly say they've never told a lie on the web?

People tend to tell white lies. Most of us do. Almost natural  .. But the post break-up lies can be some of the most questionable in my experience. Like half-truths.

Having posted in response to some problems in the PI/RI section. It makes me think that, for example, are some relationship problems totally accurate? Or do alot of Op's phrase things in order to gain support/feel right?

I tell the truth I think. I can't think of any lies. I tend to be more attracted to threads that ask for opinions on stuff. I then post my thoughts, so I'm not usually writing facts about myself anyway. What would be the point of lying to strangers who don't know who I am?

Am I telling the truth right now? No.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

For one thing telling the truth about your life on the web leaves one open privacy issues were we talk/tell to much about ourselfs . This does not apply to pm /emails to trusted friends

Telling white lies on the web to protect your privacy is different to telling lies were as in real life shared expierences , you exaggerate something to the point that or it just never happened .

    feel right?

I think like in any other topic it's open to exaggeration and people who post in PI /RI are opening up themselfs to get support and some comfort from like minded people , who may have expierenced or have some insight into their particular problem .

I dont go into PI much but when I would read some threads , I use to ask same questions ,is this person being truthful or holding back on something ? ( which is understandable if it's to painful to talk about in detail and put into words ) . I think it can be hard sometimes to judge accuracy of posts ,others you know somebodys hurting really badly but importantly and in most cases , always give the poster the benefit of any doubt .

    Yes, I've lied.
    What's your point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,766 ✭✭✭squeakyduck

I have a perfect boyfriend that buys me everything I need.

I don't pay rent as my daddy gives me as much money as I want.

I usually pay any money that isn't used on rent and bills to buy fancy make up and Louboutin shoes and I put makeup reviews and blogs on the internet and tell everyone I'm a stock broker and other amazing ****! :D

How or why could my life be any duller?

I don't think I've lied on the web. I don't so much lie as avoid telling the truth if I think I'm in a bind or can't disclose something.
