Would like the museum to be improved....

I think the aquariam could also be better since we're a coastal town. IMO

I've only been to one of the Thai restaraunts and I liked it but it didn't seem very Thai....was more like a Chinese.

Also Galway could do with a purpose built arena to hold maybe 4-5 thousand people. That way we could get bigger acts to play here and still be able to sell out.

OP can you give further details as to what you mean by needs of the City?

Whenever a "What does Galway need?" thread appears, half the posts suggest more fast food shops, despite the question being asked in a general sense. People seem so obsessed with them.

Is it a fair comment to say that a large part of the Galway population consider the needs of the City to be more clothes shops and fast food restaurants?.

Do people here care more about the variety of these type of retail entities than say local amenities for youth groups or old people?. The level of public transport?. Or perhaps the availability of local jobs? Environmental issues etc?.

A proper fast-food place nearer to Barna and Furbo.

We need a better transport system. Seriously.

We're also missing somewhere alternative to go out besides mainstream clubs.

Galway needs more things to do on a Saturday night that don't necessarily involve alcohol. The bowling alley could be a great venture but I think it's not advertised well so it seems very boring. No other great ideas off the top of my head at the mo.

Also, entertainment for the teenagers. Roller discos!!

    1. Airport Runway made longer.
    2. All the roads in the City re-paved they are a fcuking joke.
    3. Some proper alternative night clubs that dont care what you wear to get in to cater to the likes of Jazz/Metal/Funk not just on a set night. Some night clubs would turn you down in this city for wearing something resembling anything like a runner in this day and age....
    4. Major re-market of areas like Galway Bay in a way that keeps people interested in it ( Airshow/VOR/etc )
    5. Speeding up process for places to be knocked like various eyesores around the city and let the public have a say in what goes there.
    6. Indoor go-kart area, there was one here before in Liosbuan it was brilliant.
    7. Paintball in a reasonable short distance from the city ( less than 10min drive/bus )

    • A better public transport system
    • A bicycle rental system similar to Dublin
    • More race meetings at a really good but underutilised track/venue
    • A proper sushi restaurant

    A bridge

I think we need much better road system between the east and west sides, like the much delayed bypass.

And we need the airshow back. It was events like these that made Galway special.

An alcoholism clinic. This town is the Alcoholics capital of Ireland.

    The Bypass built. Now.

Better public transport too. Build the bypass and then close off certain roads in the city to everything bar bikes, buses, taxis and essential services. With a bypass the majority of traffic will have no need to go down through the docks to get to Knocknacarra, Salthill or the West side of the city.

The entire docks area needs re-developing and Salthill/The Prom could do with a serious lick of paint in parts too. Why in Gods name has it not been done years ago? The tourism aspect of this alone would be worth 10's of millions a year to the City and surrounds not to mention the business/industry side of it too.

    Bring back the Airshow.

An outdoor and maybe indoor karting track, paint balling and other such activities near to the city.

A decent arena/theatre for music, gigs, shows, drama etc again near the city centre. Something like the O2 but on a smaller scale. We had to travel to Castlebar last year to see Dara O'Briain and Bell X1 gigs.

    The Airshow.
A proper stadium as was said, host Connacht, GUFC and concerts all in one.
    Less traffic lights.
    Better roads.
A proper marina, although that's already in the pipeline.
