Samsung F4 EcoGreen 2TB 32MB 5400RPM 3.5 inch SATA-II Internal Internal Hard Drive from amazon.co.uk. This qualifies for their super free delivery offer.

The 5400RPM speed makes this drive ideal for NAS and Raid scenarios where efficient power consumption and less wear and tear are more important than throughput. Your NAS is always gonna be the bottle neck anyways so a lower RPM drive makes sense.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
This disk is part of the new trend towards 4K sectors. Some OS are not happy with that (XP older SP's etc). Also there have been reports of a chance of data loss or misreporting of bad sectors using either cache writes or smart technologies with this disk. Samsung has released a patch fix here.

Note, that the patch must be run in dos mode with the disk connected directly to the sata bus. You will need a bootable USB key or CD to run this.

Big thanks to the OP - I nearly ordered four of these yesteerday from aria PC in the Uk, they are £68.99 there and you have to pay about €15 shipping to Ireland too.

I've been using these since Mark 1 version, never an issue, used in day to day general use PC, a HTPC and DAS, have eleven 1.5TB and 2TB at the minute and would purchase another without hesistation.

I was only pointing out that it doesn't say that it's an internal HD in the thread title. If it did mention it, then people, like me, wouldn't click into it think it was.

You had to critisise his post even though there was nothing wrong with it. Its not the OP's fault that you assumed it was external. A hard drive is a hard drive, and an external hard drive is something different. He just said hard drive, which indeed it was. Nothing wrong with the title, but you spot a chance to criticise and up your post count. Well done.

You could buy a sata to usb connection if you wanted to use it as an external drive.

I have 4 of these. Working nicely so far but only been 2 weeks installed, extremely quiet drives. Just please be aware that they are newer AF 4K drives emulating older 512kb models and may have issues with some OS'es out of the box. Google is your friend.

Samsung have a firmware update for them and an alignment tool if needed for your OS. The firmware update addresses a potential fallover of the drive (possible data loss) if the drive is repeatedly polled for SMART data (rare but don't risk it). For people using WHS or looking for more info on firmware etc intending to use these drives there are threads on wegotserved.com which outline everything you'll need to know. Cheers to the OP for spotting the deal, could be tempted for 4 more:)
