Diesel car 8k or less

    Got a loan for 8k, looking for a diesel 130hp+ from 2003 up

    I've been looking for far at Audi A4 130bhp sport 6speed, but every single one, except maybe the ones in donegal/the north have ludicrously high price tags.

    I was also considering BMW 320d msport saloons as well. But I heard that they give trouble in terms of turbo failure and the swirl flaps.

    What are your opinions on these and also have you any other suggestions I may not have considered? I'm looking for a big enough car and something comfortable and sporty looking. thanks

    what about a 150bhp saab 93

    I would buy a passat sport 6 speed before an a4 much more spacious car.

    I think that in the current financial times it's more appropriate to let us know how much you want/can spend on running costs.

    Great cars can be had for next to nothing. 10 full tanks however and you've paid out the cost of the car again ;)

    I'm not a big fan of Saabs or volvos..

    Yeah the passats are nice but aren't the 2.0 TDis supposed to be dodgy?

    Well my car at the minute is a 1.6 corolla and im getting 70 miles for €20 petrol. I imagine the diesel would be lighter! I don't a lot of miles(10k a year?) but I reckon diesel is the way to go.

    I don't mind paying a little more on road tax for better economy and i wouldnt worry much about insurance as ive 6 years no claims.

    I just want an economical, reliable car that has a bit of an OEM lip kit on it! N.B. I HATE body kits I just like sports models of cars over the paddy spec...

    Honda accord diesel sounds like it kind of suits your needs. Some of them look lovely, theyre quick, economical and they don't seem to give much trouble.

    yeah I like them alright, but I can't justify paying nearly 900 pa on tax! the audi i was looking at was less than 600...

    Eur 20 = 13.3 litres at c. 1.5
    13.3 l = c. 3 gallons
    70 miles over 3 gallons = 23 mpg

    ^^ Is that correct?

    If so then I reckon there summit up with your Corolla or you spend most of your time at a stand still. At a guess I'd say you should get over 35 close to 40 from 1.6. Anyone confirm?

    Yeah, it is quite expensive on tax allright. A lot of car for the price though, same goes for the saab. If its a VW/Audi you're after then obviously a skoda is a decent alternative. Personally if I only did 10k miles a year id stick with a petrol and just get something a bit quicker than your corolla. You might even be able to get a mk5 gti at that price pretty soon. Thatll give you pretty similar if not better mpg to your corolla and will be a lot more fun. If you do get a vag diesel, expect 130-160 miles per 20 euro diesel depending on where and how you drive!!

    Well if i got 130-160 miles for 20 euro I'd be more than happy with that! Might have a look at golf or passat tdis as well. To be honest I'm getting a new car to improve the mileage im getting.

    Yeah, its getting around 70ish 80 pushing it. but it is 13 years old too so that could be contributing!
