Evening folks. A small bit of advice required. Last night the front wipers on the car stopped working. Have checked the fuses, and all seem to be fine, so don't think that's the issue.

Ive had a HID kit installed in the last three weeks, and some people have been saying thtat this can affect the wiper motor, as they share the same earth.

Anybody got any knowledge as to whether this is true, or got any suggestions as to what to check next?

    All help appreciated.

Is the bonnet open?? The bonnet catch has a sensor in it and for some reason if it breaks or the bonnet is left open the wipers will not work.

The bonnet's shut alright don't think it's the bonnet switch, because the washer nozzles are working. And if I'm not mistaken, they don't work either when the bonnet's open.

    Hiya....
I had a problem like this on My Octavia (02) before xmas...While I didn't have anything fitted,(HD Kit) the wipers went a bit mad, before finally packing up.

Turned out it was the relay....I think it's a common problem on the Octavia.

Not sure if the 06 model differ from the 02 much,,but the relay on mine is by the foot pedals.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Chuck, check all the fuses, not just the one listed for the wipers. Skoda's can be a little bit eccentric in the fuse department.

Did you fit Canbus or Non canbus HID's?
if it were canbus ones i can almost guarantee that is your problem.

I am putting a set on non canbus into mine today, abd coding to suit

They were canbus ones Vectra. If it's yourself on Briskoda as well, I'm noticing your disdain for the canbus hid kits.

Im just hoping it's not the motor, as that's what it's starting to look like where the problem is.

Just a bit more info for you Vectra. The HID's have been in for over three weeks, so I would've assumed that any issues like what you're saying would've shown up before now.

i thought the new shape had to have canbus or it would f**k up the wiring?

    it is me indeed.
I am supposed to be going to get my car re-coded today but weather is a bit on the bad side as I have to fit them yet (NON Canbus) and am not well at the moment.( next door to pneumonia) :o

    Anyhow
    Back on topic
I assume you did read Hauptmann's explanation on this matter and why you should NOT use canbus ones.
I was in touch with him personally and with his CV I would have full faith in him.

A quick addition to that original question. Teh switch on the bonnet, does anybody know of it.s two swirches? As in, is there one to allow stop the washer nozzles from operating when the bonnet's open, and one to stop the wipers from operating when the bonnet's open?

    cheers.

You reckon it's the bonnet switch, even though the washer nozzles are still working?

Just as a final update, 'twas the motor that was knackered. Garage man wanted €190 plus the vodka for the motor, and two hours labour to fit it. Got one from an 08 Octavia from a breakers, and had it fitted in just over an hour myself.
