If you are running 67 in training, albeit on a perfectly flat course, you have to target 65 minutes for the real thing.

65 minutes for a 50k race? that would be some going :P

I was gonna say that 8's would be comfortable starting out and see how youre feeling half way. I'm sure if you really had to, you could easily hold 7:30's all the way but it depends how much of a goal the race is.

Yeah would love to go for 7.30 but i wanna recover asap and that pace would take alot out of me. Sub 4.10 for now and Sub 4 sometime in the year. Its not exactly a flat course either its very undulating.

slowly would be my two cents, or even better - use a car :).

when were old and grey nobody will ask what your 50k pb is.

Youre running really well - I would concentrate on cashing in in barcelona if I were you. Just my two cents.

Good luck for the race Oisin.

You should have a good one no matter what pace you decide on the day.

Hard hard course. Very undulating and very cold.
4.13, 8.05 a mile. Passed marathon in 3.29 and took the foot off the gas.
I have a new found respect for the guys that run ultras.
Very happy with that and not in that bad nick.

Yeah its 4 and a bit laps and each lap has shapre small inclines and long drags. Most undulating course ive ever ran on by far. Yes Dingle is on the cards if i come through conn ok:D

Well, the hills will be good practice for Connemara. Try and finish your long runs with a big hill climb and you'll be laughing on race day (ok, maybe 'laughing' is a bit strong!).

Yeah im going to do alot more hills between now and conn. After today ive realised 8.30 a mile is realistic for me in conn. I hope to get to marathon distance in about 3.43 and slug it out from there.

well done.......ul have to do a real one now, a 50k is only a badly measured marathon;);)

well done oisin - great running.
Yeah could have pushed another 5 mins but it was starting to hurt, by taking the last 5 easier the legs are in good nick. Rest of the week easy then a couple of hard weeks then 3.10 or die:D

Congrats and well done Oisin. You will absolutely blitz that time in flat Portumna :D. Id give a kidney to be able to run that fast .
    Enjoy.

That was my approach for Connemara last year. Did the first 26.2 in 3:15 (it's largely downhill), and then was knackered climbing the first hill immediately afterwards. The next 13.1 took me two hours. Just goes to show the benefits of proper ultra/endurance training (which I didn't do). Good luck with it. Wish I was going back there this year for a proper go. :(

I hope to be able to keep that pace to 39.3. I should be in good nick after 26.2.
That would get me in about 5.37 which i would be delighted with.

All going well between now and portumna i hope to have a stab at sub 4.
I could have stuck 5 mins maybe on that time yesterday if i emptied the tank but it was getting painful, hill after hill ect..
So sub 4 should be just about at my limits.

I may go out with you for the first half anyway, which is meant to be dead flat. (as long as you promise to keep it to 8:30's that is!)

Yeah deffo 8.30. wanna keep loads in the tank for the last 13.1. No joke getting to 26.2 and already being drained. I wanna run the whole thing that is my #1 aim.
