Not necessarily, JFK to name but one has public baggage reclaim.

As do many US airports, always concerned me, anyone can walk in off the street and pick up a suitcase.

God love them . The devastation, jesus. They had to break down a wall to get to the injured.

What will the powers that be use this for now?
Iris and full body scanners just to get into the airport followed by extending the program to schools, theatres, train stations?

Wouldn't rule it out, Belfast International had screening in the enternace foyer up until the late 90's, possible early 00's. Regardless if you travelling, meeting, or dropping off. From when I first remember everyone was serched then it was just selective.

This was in addition to the army/ruc check points on the approach roads.

In fairness this was to prevent the paramilitary threat and so on, but its the same idea.

"Where would we be without the religion of peace, love and tolerance?"

A comment on Sky News, as this was most likely caused by Islamic extremists.

It was either the Chechens looking for attention, or the Russian security service being responsible so that they can blame it on the Chechens and give them another kicking.

You think the Russians would kill their own people and possibly ruin their tourism just to give the Chechens a kicking? Are you for real?

Given the shady nature of the deaths of numerous people in the recent past it wouldn't be a huge jump. However highly unlikely it's not a theory completely beyond possibility either.

Islam doesn't allow killing of innocent people. The people who did this were not Muslims.

Chechnya is run by a Russian backed head the ball, who will doubtless "dissappear" even more people than usual in reprisal.

Things are really shaping up to make this whole 2012 thing look more and more likely. I know for sure that on 21/12/2012 I'll be getting out of here and taking cover.

We don't know anything yet but its most likely to be Muslim separatists. The last bombings in March Underground were Muslims from Dagestan.

Maybe he means they can claim to be whoever or whatever they want but actions speak louder than words? Their very actions have negated their claim on being Muslim?

I thought baggage reclaim is a secure area, only arriving passenger and staff allowed.

    Some major security flaw there.

Baggage reclaim is a secure area in Domodedovo but the blast actually happened just outside that in the public part of the arrivals area.

Im wondering why airport is still open? Thats weird is it not?

Im watching RT live now, and the airport still seems to be functioning.

scratch that, they just said all staff going home.
The priority in Russia is to keep things running. After the bombings last year only the affected line was closed and even that was opened again in a couple of hours. It was business as usual for evening rush hour. The airport is still open and dispatching departing flights. Arriving flights are being diverted to Moscow's other two international airports.

The Russian government doesn't care very much about tourism and it has been credibly argued that the apartment bombings of 1999 were actually carried out by state elements to provide a pretext for launching the subsequent second war in Chechnya. It's unlikely this airport bombing was anything other than an attack by Muslim extremists from the Caucaus region but it's not beyond the bounds of credibility for it to have been someone closer to home.

Grozny is secure in the hands of the Russian government's man. It will be the forest and mountain hideouts that get hit if anything.

Christianity doesn't either however that doesn't stop Catholic and Protestants killing people every day. It is highly likely they were Islamists who believe they are doing gods work in killing people.

Or Chechen (or other Caucasian) nationalists, killing people in the name of a seperate Chechen state, with some Religion mixed in for good measure, which is relatively recent thing, as the Chechen seperatist movement was largely secular, before the 2nd Chechen war.

As for the attack, its a terrible attack, and hopefully those responsible will be brought to justice. However, knowing the Russian security apparatus, they will just as likely grab some other innocent people, and disappear and call it a day.
