alot of asumptions here, id like the op to tell us how they know the car or the driver is uninsured before he goes reporting any1
OP, like any other citizens of the state, is perfectly entitled to report their suspicions of wrong-doing to the relevant authorities, if necessary giving the reasons for their suspicions. It is up to the authorities to investigate that report and gather evidence that either prove or disprove OP's suspicions and take appropriate follow-up action.

You seem to have the duties and responsibilities of an ordinary private citizen and the statutory authorities confused.

Car has no NCT either so that wouldn't work.

Maybe it isn't owned by him?

is it not a legal requirement to have NCT To help you comply with this legal requirement

Motor tax and a current driving licence* are also a legal requirements and, like the NCT, not having either does not invalidate your third party insurance.

*You must hold or have held at some stage previously in your life a valid licence for the class of vehicle and must not be currently disqualified. An expired licence is sufficient for third party cover.

this is about someone who does not have insurance in the first place which is illegal
also not having a current NCT is illegal. The car is taxed

Woah there, wind back up the thread starting here and you'll see my post is very relevant to the topic of no insurance since nobody here knows for a fact the car is uninsured and Landyman suggested he may be covered under another policy.

Report him and don't regret it.

If he can't afford to insure it then more than likely he can't afford to maintain it. If he won't pay for insurance what else is he not paying for.

The vast majority of posters support reporting him I personally wouldn't waste a second reading some of the don't report him ones, most are just rants.

Report him and don't regret it.

This. If the Gardai call him on it and it turns out he is insured, no harm done. Either way, you can sleep easy at night.

Unfortunately im type of person whos taxes and insurance are always paid.
But i would agitate people to do not pay any insurance and tax at all, as this is more than crazy whats going on in this country, recession and they increasing the insurance prices and taxes.
If nobody will pay them at all, they might start to think to come up with more reasonable fees ....

Answers in this thread should really consist of "report him, that's terrible" or "don't report him, it's none of your business".
Advocating (or agitating) illegal activity (i.e. encouraging people to drive without insurance) is against the Charter and will lead to infractions/bans as appropriate.

Don't say anything, times are tight, the last thing people need is people grassing others.

If times are so tight that one cant afford insurance they should not be driving. If he has an accident with a third party and that person is off work etc for some time they will have tight times...

Whatever about letting tax slide for a few months (which I also dislike) insurance is an absolute no no... We all have to pay for our insurance no matter how tight times are and therefore those who choose to flout the law should be made deal with the consequences.
