Does he sit on the street at 2 in the morning when it's freezing cold out? No I doubt it.

I notice you deleted your post pretty pronto there whatsamsn when you realised that there's a lot more that "always one" telling you why you could be wrong.

I'm perfectly willing to accept that the guy might not be genuine but I'm having a hard time wondering why someone who has a home to go to would be sitting out in the freezing cold at 2am if he had a home to go to. Now despite most people being drunk at that time of the morning there's a hell of a lot more people on the street during the day so I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say it's far more profitable for someone to be begging during the day than at night.

He actually does, we would be open till four most mornings and he is often there untill two or three!

I would imagine it probably is more profitable during the day so I dont know why he stays out that late maybe he prefers it at night time!

I feel bad for him when it is really cold but at least he has a stool and can come in to us if it is too cold! must be hard though!

In fact, after talking to him sounded like a college student. Wasnt a skanger, did sound like times were hard etc.

So this guy that has fallen on hard times and that you're now admitting might actually be homeless (is that what you're doing?). Explain to me what's so funny about him having to sleep on the street.

Something funny happened tonight :D I was with my girlfriend and we were in the blanchardstown shopping centre. There is this old woman who sits outside sometimes asking for spare change (always carries a dog) ... its funny when we first passed her she was on a mobile phone chatting away lol ... next time we passed her "spare change please" :pac:

or the best one i've ever seen. Went into Spar in westmoreland street a year ago. 2am one thursday night. Outside was this guy in a sleeping bag. Cold as fu*k that night! he asks me for a smoke. Said sorry dont have any. I stand outside as I am sending a text when i start feeling bad for him ... so I say "its bleeding freezing mate" - he looks at me, takes out his ipod earphones, pauses it and says "yeah i know" :pac::pac::pac:

care to share any funny stories?

Well if you couldn't scorn a homelessness person for spending the proceeds of their begging on alcohol or an iPod then you'd probably lambaste them for having the audacity to have clothes on their back when clearly clothing isn't a necessity.
I can imagine your horror at seeing a bum take the bus when clearly the filthy bastard has two feet to walk.

And you need to wake up.
No one is saying "oh half of the homeless people arent homeless" god no. Only an pig ignorant person would. But theres some chances out there. Yes, minority, but thats what i am talking about.

So yes, lets say you become homeless tomorrow. im sure you'll be buying credit to ring people
Im sure your "ipod" and its power supply will be more important than other things

So whats your answer to what i posted earlier about the people I KNOW? who 1, regularly goes to soup kitchens (dinner houses) and gets a free meal while he has a full time job ... and has his own house!!!!

and 2nd, the guy who begs in town when he is not in a situation to do so? (aka not homeless ... not hard up)

I'm wide awake thank god, how old are you as a matter of interest, because if you were my son you'd be marched to the nearest simon community centre to learn a bit about the world we live in, yes there are scammers, plenty of them, but theres also a lot of homeless people sleeping on the streets every night while you're snuggling up in your comfy bed making spoiled little brat posts about how hilarious it is that a homeless person can have a mobile phone. Were not living in Oliver Twists days, homeless people can have a mobile or an mp3 but still have no ****ing home. And if your over the age of 16 then theres probably not alot of hope for you.

....I'm only interested in hearing you explain about this one guy that you found so hilarious.

    Fair enough.

First of all. I am the person who talked to him. I saw him etc. Every bit of my common sense & my instinct was saying this guy wasnt hard up as a passing glance would lead you to believe. Because I talked to him and I got a real good look at him. If you want to disagree, then disagree.

Your logic is saying why would a person sleep rough at 2am in the cold? ... thats right. Very good logic. However, doesnt logic apply to phones and ipods? if your homeless and havent got 2 euros to rub together? yeah im sure you'll keep that ipod... and im sure you'll "top up" your mobile phone with credit

    isnt that logic too?

Do you seriously think homeless people don't have access to electricity, they go to centres for the homeless to get meals, charge their phones or whatever but go back out on the street if there's no bed for them for the night. Just because they're homeless does not mean they haven't joined the 21st century.

jesus, can anyone talk about something while clearly using words "some" - "small" - "certain" (which mean minority!!!!) without some moral crusader ripping into them because they misunderstand and think the words "all" were used.

    Oh :)
and for the record implying ones immature while asking for their age is a very cheap and too often used insult :) you could do better ;)

I don't see the problem with homeless people having mobile phones after all they can't have a home phone since all the phone boxes were removed :D

For a lot of homeless people having a mobile phone can be the only way they can keep tabs on their housing applications, applications for jobs or god forbid - calling about getting a house somewhere at some point. So that mobile phone that you seem so resentful of could be the lifeline that a person needs to help them get themselves off the street.

What would a 2nd hand iPod sell for these days? Probably not enough to pay a deposit on rental accommodation. Should someone who is homeless give up absolutely everything that might be of some comfort to them while they are without shelter?

But you still haven't answered my question as to why if this "fake" homeless person that seems to be so f*cking funny in your estimation would be out on the street at 2am in the freezing cold if they did in fact have a house to sleep in.

    Answer me that.

And remember I'm talking about this one specific guy that tickled your funny bone so much.

So let me get this straight, say your homeless. Havent got 2 euro to rub together ... you live off the charity of others (spare change and charity groups) but you'll keep your ipod? rather than selling it on when you're already hard up!?!?!?

actually and why is it all about the ipod?
i dont see people defending the use of a phone? because how could you. Phone would require top up credit. So you'd spend a fiver (at min) ??

Read my post above and you'll see why homeless people might have a very legitimate need for a phone.

It's almost like you want homeless people to stay homeless and destitute and not try to improve their situation and get off the streets at all.

I suppose if the homeless problem was solved in Ireland then what would you post your "funny stories" about?

As someone suggested, a few nights doing soup runs with a homeless charity would open your eyes and make you see that not all people on the streets have to be 'knackers' or 'junkies'.

Do you actually know what being homeless entails?
apart from the obvious no home? the life etc.

I for one have never been homeless. clearly you havent too. But a very close relative of mine has. They told me all the stories.

Are they currently homeless? If so then go and ask them why they might need a mobile phone. You'll be surprised at the answers you might get.

I've done work with charities in Dublin that deal with homeless people on a regular basis so I have a good idea of the realities of homeless life without having the misfortune to have gone through them myself.

But you still haven't answered my question - what was so 'funny' about this one guy. What was it that made you crack up so much about this one guy?

Go on, share what the joke was. Because I'm f*cked if I can work it out from your original post.

Is there some hilarity that I'm missing?

Don't worry. As you go through life you'll find there's a lot of things you don't get.

I have always said that there is a very thin line between being in a home and being homeless, all it takes is to fall behind on morgage repayments, the bank reposesses and you find yourself with nowhere to live. It isn't just addicts and drunks on the street. I was watching the morning show lately where they showed a guy that had a great job, bringing in 800 a week, he had his house, his car, a wife and 3 kids and within 6 months of losing his job he was split from his wife and was sleeping in an underground carpark. He didn't drink or smoke but couldn't get the dole because he had no address. He was too embarrassed to tell his family. He could be sitting on the street with people sniggering at him as if he is some kind of loser. You'd think in the times we live in now when banks are reposessing all around them that people would be more sensitive.

Worldwide most adults who can afford a phone have one. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10569081
The four billion connections mark was surpassed at the end of 2008, and analysts at Wireless Intelligence predict six billion connections worldwide by the middle of 2012.

And yes there are pound shop earphones that look like apple ones.

And yes the person may not have been genuinely down and out. Those sort of people are like the scum that put fliers in letterboxes , diverting money from real charities and those who need it , and as far as I know none of them have ever received the 10 year sentence that can be applied :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I know it's not a school night but you still need to be in bed at a decent hour, don't let the bed bugs bite :)
