Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Development & the permanent way

    Was just flicking through a few railway photos, and noticed they brought the new Intercity stock "Mk4" off a ship on North Wall Quay and along the track next to the Point Depot and onwards to the yard.

    Is this track still extant? I would have thought this would be considered part of the permanent way and thus Crosbie would have to incorporate access to it with the new Point O2 development?

    The track is gone. When the Inter City railcars were shipped in they had to be taken from the dock by road to the tracks on Alexander road extension.

    did Crosbie pay to get them decomissioned\removed during the redevelopment of the O2? - they were still there when the old point was in operation.

    Thats what I was thinking, removal of a permanent way is a very difficult process, and it does not make sense why Irish Rail would simply give up a connection to North Wall Quay for Crosbie's sake!

    Best info I could find.
    North Wall: In recent years the track from the ‘Granaries’ to the sidings alongside the River Liffey via Sheriff Street level crossing, through the former Point Depot yard and across the road at the roundabout at the Toll Bridge has been used only for taking delivery of new rolling stock and locomotives. Many pictures have appeared in the JOURNAL of new vehicles being delivered on this track. It was taken out of service after the delivery of a set of 29000-class railcars on Wednesday 21 December. The track was cut and the temporary buffer stop at Sheriff Street level crossing was made permanent. It is understood that the yard at the Point Depot, now used as a car park, is to be developed and this was not conducive to a rail line running through it.

    Most of the 22Ks were delivered via Belview Port in Waterford - according to IRN.

    Thats correct. But I'm just talking about the arrangements in Dublin port. The first batch of 22Ks arrived via Dublin.
