What colours can you dye read hair without looking washed out?

Hey there,

Thinking of dying my red hair (kind of a sandy ginger) to a different shade. Nothing against me ol' coppers but I fancy a change.

I've only dyed my hair once in the past when I was in my mid teens. Bleached it. It looked pretty good but I'm going for a more natural looking colour this time, something that won't make me look washed out.

Just wondering if I should go the light brown route or dark blonde?

I'm a lad by the way, if that makes any difference. Will probably be using nice n easy colour blend foam since it seems fairly hassle free and comes out in about 8 weeks if the colour ain't decent.

So far I've been looking mostly at 106D Natural Cool Blonde, 106G Dark Golden Blone, and 114A Natural Lightest Golden Brown.

Any advice?

Without seeing your face colouring it's hard to say but in general, makes sure you stick to a darkness close to your natural hair. Make sure the colour will suit your eyebrows too. I was a ginger as a kid, and any colour with yellow in it is horrible on me, so stick with Ash tones. So go for a Dark Ash blonde probably, or a very "cool" light brown.

I got some subtle blonde highlights in my red hair before. It looked really nice and natural. The blonde itself was quite bright but there wasn't much of it so it looked good I thought.

I'm not ridicuously pale, maybe a little darker than the usually ginger (hehe), but not by a long way. Bout the same as most irish blokes I suppose. I just don't want to pick a colour that's gonna make me look ill or one that looks ridiculously unnatural.

I don't see any dark ash blondes there, although there's natural dark golden blonde. Would that count as having yellow in it?

I'd probably prefer a dark blonde than a light brown, simply because I'd have no idea what a brown would turn out like. Even light ash brown looks pretty dark, but it's hard to tell from the packaging.

That'd be a yellow colour! It might suit you now, but it wouldn't suit most natural red heads, can't be sure???? Something this kind of colour http://www.boots.com/en/Nice-n-Easy-Permanent-Colour-Blend-Foam-8C-Medium-Champagne-Blonde_1162364/ or darker should work.
