Supposedly facebook places (that allows you to tag your current location) is not yet available in ireland (iphone tells me that its not yet available in my region)

It works on some of my friends iphones but not mine, im baffled.. why is this?

I have iPhone 3gs with vodafone and have it set up in phone settings to allow facebook app to collect location info

    Anyone else having this issue?

It was meant to be active in Ireland (according to various online blogs and media) last year .. 2010.. but still not working??

If you go to a region where Places is available it will pop up in more places but won't let you check in when you're down here. I went online in the North, I now have an option of checking in next to photo and status.

Rumoured to be problems around the Data Protection legislation which I think is tougher in Ireland than in other jurisdictions. Whatever the problem is, I believe it to be a purely legal one.

I believe the Data Protection Commissioner was interested in looking at how it worked because there were privacy issues surrounding the technology as everyone is opted into it automatically (i.e. unless they change their privacy settings, ALL their friends can see where they've checked in). While it could be argued that there's no harm in allowing your friends to know where you are, I think all of us have some creep or another that we accepted as a friend as mere courtesies.

When it first launched in the US and the UK I got that error saying its not available here yet, it then started working and I checked into a few locations here, however for the last couple of weeks I now get error whenever I try to check in
Same for the other half too,
not sure if its just buggy or not
hopefully we'll figure somethin out with this thread!
