How to transfer tracks from Itunes to Ipod?

Bought a second hand Ipod and Itunes is not picking it up....so the option of transferring as I did with my old 2g doesn't appear. Can anyone help?. Danke F

Is your pc recognising there is a device attached when you connect it to your pc?

My pc is but I-Tunes is not....:(....If I can't transfer my own collection it's not of much use.
