What is the connection to the vu+ duo?

    Hi,
Anyone know if there's something wrong with the vuplus support site (http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/ Or http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/)?

I had to zap my vu+ with image Vix 1.3 but I cant seem to be able to download software updates or plugins on line? :(
The epg updates OK, so I know my network is fine?

In the mean time, does anyone know how to install CCcam 2.1.4 manually . I have tried (so far) loading all the files in to etc, tmp and var/etc. But when I go in to softcam/ci menu to select it and start it - it doesn't see any to select? What am I doing wrong ?

    Yes I have - powered down/up.

I know the modified cccam.cfg file is in the /etc directory but where are the other files supposed to be?

If memory is correct, it won't work until you update the firmware files over the net.

OK thanks Apogee, I'll just have to wait for the site to come back up.

take it you are using it to read your own card. if so you place the ccam file in usr/softcams in vix image

Thanks irishchris, that allowed me to see it and select it but it still didnt work. I can see, for example, the RTE one epg on screen but cant see the picture. I'll just wait for the site to come up and start from scratch.

    Hi,

Planned today to sort out the parents VU+ solo.....so spent the day updating firmware and trying to download plugins. Pulled my hair out until I stumbled upon this thread. Thanks.
I see http://www.vuplus-support.com is back up now. I wonder will it be long before I can install cccam....

Well lads - I'm looking to buy my first Sat box, and having spent the past few days reading what I can find about them all, I'm intending to go ahead and get a Vu+ Duo box from ielektroniks - thanks a million to all you guys that have posted helpful tips (and the discount codes!).

For the benefit of people coming after me (since this thread is LONG and picking up speed!), I've made some notes as I've gone through the thread of things that might be important and I'll paste them in here. Any mistakes or misunderstandings are mine! The grammer will be a bit odd where I've copied and pasted.

Best place to buy this box
    iElektoniks - 390 incl delivery with discount codes - e.g. http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=69234508&postcount=358

One suggestion for software to put on it - well supported
Get the Vix 1.3 image - new image due out soon. Details/download 1.3 - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=69394128&postcount=372
download the the zip file, unzip the vuplus folder onto a usb key, insert the usb into the front usb slot and turn on your machine.

    Picking up the Irish channels
Adding a DTT tuner to pick up Soarview, Irish digital channels http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/showthread.php?3107-sundtek-dvb-t-c-usb-fully-working-on-vix-image
link to buy tuner mentioned in thread - others (cheaper) may work with newer Vix
    http://sundtek.com/shop/Digital-TV-Sticks-oxid/Sundtek-MediaTV-Pro-DVB-CT-Radio-AnalogTV.html
Watch this thread for updates about any other cheaper tuners that Vix 1.4 may support when it's out.

    suggestion on pause/rewind
install the permanent timeshift plugin and enable it and then you can live rewind. I didn't enable this as don't wish to have my hard drive continually spinning while switched on. "I bought a 16gb USB stick to use for time shifting."

Finding it on the network after software upgrade - Most likely the IP address has changed on then upgrade with the box reverting to DHCP. Check the settings in Setup->System->Network for the currently allocated IP address. The username is root with a blank password on FTP over port 21.

Tip for skipping day - press the button under the mute button on top left of remote while in vix epg and you can select what day you wish to view

A thread about moving the dish - http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?11-VU-Duo

Permanent timeshift is installed and enabled by default on ViX.

You will need to setup swap partition, picons and epg data file onto the usb stick so the hard drive won't be spinning all the time.

Would you happen to know of a thread that describes how to do that, please?

My nix terminal skills are weak, very weak. I wouldn't know how to make a new folder at the command line, for example.

It's all done within ViX menu except the picons.

    Swap Partition
Menu button / Setup / VIX / Swap Manager
    Red button to activate.

    Epg Data file
Menu button / Setup / VIX / CrossEPG / Configure / Storage device
    Select your USB key

    Picons
FTP the picon files onto the USB sticks /media/sdb1

You will be able to download the latest picon files from vuplus-support.co.uk when it comes back online.

To make a new folder in linux, using putty select Telnet port 23 instead of ssh port 22
    Username: root and no password
    mkdir newfolder_name

Never thought of that. Many thanks roger.
Just wondering, could I set these to the boxes internal storage memory which I believe is around 350MB ? It would save having a usb dongle sticking out all the time and may be a little faster ???

Also, what is the swap manager? mine is set to inactive, why do I need to activate it?

What egp data do you use on ViX?

    There is a choice between
    CrossEPG
    1. XMLTV providers
    2. OpenTV providers
    3. XEPGDB providers

    4. RyVIX

Should you only setup one for Sky UK?

    Currently I have enabled:
Rytec UK XMLTV in XMLTV providers
Sky UK OpenTV (Astra2 on 28.2) in OpenTV providers
Sky UK OpenTV (Astra2 on 28.4) in OpenTV providers
Krkadoni Sky UK Provider in XEPGDB providers

I should have one only, shouldn't I? But which on?

Im using CrossEpg with OPenTV provider. It provides all data nice and stable, including cam'd cards such as my FTV card and RTE/TV3 etc. Have a look at my question above (#530).

    /dev/root 120832 48116 72716 40% /

The internal store on my box is 120mb with 72mb free. So it's no good for time shift. epg data is about 10mb and picon are about 4mb. So with 72mb free I can't see why you can't use the internal storage. I am just following what other people have done. I don't think speed is a big issue using the USB key. I have the key plugged into the back so I don't see it.

The ViX image was more stable using a swap partition, I used 64mb.

I am having a bit of trouble with dreamboxedit.

When I press receive files from dreambox, I get the following:
    Connected.
    Dreambox response: Login successful.
    ** Retrieving file list of "/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/" **
    Starting FTP transfer
    Transfer complete
    ** Retrieving file list of "/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/" **
    Starting FTP transfer
    Transfer complete
Neither a "services" nor a "lamedb" file was found in directory "%" on the Dreambox. /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/
Check the dream path settings on the option panel to point to the correct Dreambox directories and try again.
    Disconnecting.
    Disconnected.

I got a bouquet from a post earlier in this thread, but get the following if I try to send it to the box
    Connecting to 192.168.1.124.
    Connected.
    Dreambox response: Login successful.
    ** Getting directory list /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/* **
    Starting FTP transfer
    Transfer complete
    ** Sending file "/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/lamedb" **
    Starting FTP transfer
    Transfer aborted
Error sending file "lamedb" to the Dreambox.
    Disconnecting.
    Disconnected.

    The paths are set as:
    services and bouquets:
    /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/

    User bouquets:
    /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/

    Satellites.xml:
    /var/etc/

What should these be set to?

Make sure under Options, you click enigma2 settings (I think)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,231 ✭✭✭fish fingers

in options it needs to be set to enigma2. You will see it at the bottom

Thinking of buying this but have a few questions.

    1. Beginner. How difficult is this to use for a total Linux beginner?

    2. Stability. How stable will this be once set up? e.g. If I was away from home for a few weeks/months, could I rely on this setup to continue working without any issues for all the non techies at home?

    3. RF Out. We currently send the signal from our living room tv to the kitchen. Can this be achieved with the Vu+ Duo?

    4. Internet. TV is nowhere near internet router. Will the Vu+ Duo connect wirelessly? And will this be sufficient?

    Thanks. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,803 ✭✭✭edanto

Pj! - on your Question 3, this box doesn't have an RF out. Still, here's a thread about the problem you're asking about and a suggested solution, don't know if it will work for you. http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/f280/rf-modulator-scart-phono-vu-35666.html

Is anyone using a DTT card other than the Sundtek successfully, particulary if they might have an early version of VIX 1.4 .... looking towards you irishchris!?!

Just wondering if I could save a few quid there. I've ordered the box from iElektronics, gonna wait a little while before the DTT card just to see if there is any news on a newer version of VIX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭dnme

re question 4, get a 2nd wireless router and set it up as a bridge to the main router. It can then live in your tv cabinet and give net access to vu+, tv, bluray player etc

Get an old linksys router off ebay and flash ot with dd-wrt

Just wondering has anyone managed to download any plugins from the VIX 1.1 image. Still can't seem to download anything.
