    Monopoly money.
None of it matters, according to certain sources the world will end next year anyway.
Keep borrowing, blow the lot on coke and hookers.

So, basically we owe the world about 444444 euro each? (2 trillion divided by 4.5 million)

Irish people think they're entitled to a standard of living which is higher than other countries, just because we're Irish.

That picture of Irish debt is skewed bythe inclusion of the debt held by firms based in the IFSC, and doesn't at all reflect Ireland's true debt. About 3/4 of the debt alluded to is held by these international companies based in, or working from, Ireland, and is often quite short term; the rest is made up of Irish government debt and bank debt, which basically amounts to the same thing, and consumer debt. Not as sensational as the OP, but the facts rarely are!

That is Irelands national debt figure... the same formula is used for all of the other countries...

Eh, the same formula may be used, however the skewage is far more significant in irelands case.

As I said, we're fubbed anyway.

Yes, but in Ireland it's skewed by the fact that we have the massive holdings of the international firms based in the IFSC included in the figures of a small economy. That distorts the figures entirely. The figures you linked to do not reflect Ireland's debt, but rather the debt held in Ireland at a particular moment. Including by international firms whose debt is not that of Ireland as a state, or the Irish as a people.

OK, what is Irelands real debt then?
