Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    fyi http://www.kenmare.ie/news-view.php?id=82 that hospital construction contract is already signed.

    Fred Barry also signalled that Tralee Bypass on the agenda for start in early 2011. http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/kfmheymhojkf/rss2/

    Nothing new in the demands spoken of today.

    Of course it was already planned but why should that stop Healy-Rae claiming that it was him who made sure it went ahead. This is the sort of posturing and parish pump politics that has this country in the mess its in!

    I could'nt agree more with you.The independent TD,s cannot hold the country to randsom for the sake of a bypass or a hospital. either FG or Labour should abstain on the budget vote and that would wipe out the Healy-Raes and their lot

    confirmed Openings...
    M18 Gort-Crusheen - Nov 12

    Hi folks.
    I've heard nothing about this since the opening date was confirmed as 12th NOvember in the national media.

    Is this date still applicable or have there been any changes?

    I'm actually travelling to Limerick on Friday so an alternative to the Gort/Crusheen hell will be most welcome!!

    Thansk,

    It's definately opening Friday. See below.
    AA Traffic Update

    On Fri 12th Nov the new M18 Gort to Crusheen Bypass will open to motorists

    Updated: 03/11/2010 12:37:00

    The opening ceremony will take place at midday and the road is expected to open to the public by 3pm. This will mark the next phase of the Atlantic Corridor. This section of the route is 23km in length and will bypass Gort, Co Galway and Crusheen, Co Clare. Work on the Gort to Tuam route will commence in 2011 and when finished (expected in 2014), motorists will be able to travel from Gort to Dublin by motorway. The new route will connect to the M6 Galway/Dublin Rd east of Oranmore and will bypass Tuam, Ardrahan, Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge.

    press release
    DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT
    24 November 2010

    Q & A –Four Year Plan
    Capital Investment

    What road projects will proceed in 2011?
    · NRA will go ahead with the planned 2011 starts and have adequate money for rehabilitation and minor works.
    · Starts include Belturbet / N5 Longford/ Tralee bypasses and the Cork Southern Ring Road junctions.
    · Two PPP projects will also start in 2011 - the M17/18 Gort – Tuam PPP and M11/Newlands Cross PPP bypasses.
    · Purchase of land for service areas and expressions of interest from developers

    What roads projects are planned after 2011?
    · There will be no major schemes starting in 2012 or 2013.
    · Possibility of commencing construction of N14 Lifford/Letterkenny.
    · The following high priority schemes will proceed as funding becomes available and planning permission is granted: N5 Ballaghadreen bypass, the N4 Downes grade separation, the N2 Slane bypass, the N22 Macroom to Ballyvourney, the N8/N25 Dunkettle roundabout.
    · The Enniscorthy/ New Ross bypasses PPP may restart the procurement process when there is further insight into 2015 and 2016 funding plans.
    · Rehabilitation and minor works will be curtailed in 2013 and 2014, to the extent necessary to balance the budget, but will be increased again in 2015 (even if the overall budget stays very low). This will be necessary to protect existing investment.

    No, according to NRA press releases the last contract awarded was for the M1 & M4 service areas. The M17/M18 is described as preferred tender (I hope that's just a change of language), the contract hasn't been signed yet (or at least it hasn't made the papers in Galway).

    Was on to NRA today about the award of contract for this project and N11.
    They informed me that the contract will not be awarded untill April, so that puts the whole completion date back well into 2012, There was no reason given for delay

    Not sure what you mean, with at least a year of construction this yoke was never gonna finish until 2012 at minimum.

    It's gonna be built only a 5-minute drive from my place, I'm very excited :)

    Interview with Leo V on Pat Kenny (bottom of this page: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/todaywithpatkenny/ or download http://www.rte.ie/podcasts/2011/pc/pod-v-04051133m56stodaywithpatkenny-pid0-2036952.mp3) the highlight from road building is at abour 2m 45s:
    We have 3 road PPPs that I really want to see go ahead this year. you know one is Gort To Tuam, the other is Rathnew/Newlands and the other is the New Ross Bypass in Wexford
    .
    The NRA is trying very hard to get them over the line, but it is very difficult to get private finance for any project in Ireland at the moment that is contingent on the government being able to meet its obligations for the next 30 years.

    Nothing definite but at least, but he's at least appearing to be behind what many people see as being important projects.

    I wouldn't get too optimistic about these schemes... Ireland is about to be downgraded further into junk territory. With a simmering European debt crisis, private investors are unlikely to return to fund these schemes.

    Only two of those schemes need private investors and only one doesn't have said investor already announced.

    Many thanks Esteemed Sponginess.

    Could you add a direct link to a map of the project to each line above?

    Thanking you in anticipation :)

    (With the weather deader than the National Infrastructure Plan we need some entertainment on these warm winter nights)

    N4 The Downs Grade Separation Road Scheme

    SIAC Construction Ltd, on behalf of Westmeath County Council, have commenced works on the N4 between Clongowney and McNeads Bridge. Works have now started on site. A traffic management plan is in place and traffic on one section of the dual carriageway has been reduced to one lane in both directions. Also, some median crossings have been closed and diversions are in place via Junction 13, McNeads Bridge and Junction 15, Marlinstown. These works may result in delays at peak times. The anticipated completion date is December 2012. Westmeath County Council regrets any inconvenience caused during the course of these roadworks.

    I'd say N52 Carrickbridge to Clonfad will start soon. I've emailed Jons Construction to see if they've a date.

    They never got back to me, but the NRA did:

    Dear xx,

    Thank you for your email regarding the N52 Carrick Bridge to Clonfad.

    The contract for the scheme has been awarded to Jons Civil Engineering Co. Ltd.  Design works are ongoing and elements of the site works have commenced.

    Regards,
    Annamarie McNally

    Hi,
    The N52 Carrick Bridge to Clonfad road scheme was listed for a start in 2011. However it was then announced that it would start early in 2012. Can I ask if there is a definite start date for this project?

    Regards

    Passed there a few days ago, the site offices are in place but no on-ground work has started otherwise.

    I've created a map that animates over time the development of the major roads in Ireland.

    Which appears to be missing the Oranmore Bypass ;)

    Great idea mate - was hoping for something that would graphically show the development of Ireland's motorways over the years - 2007 to 2010 was definitely the golden age of motorway building programme - even though the road building that's happening now is far better than nothing, it's really nothing compared to then. I guess 2013 should see the completion of:

    M1 Jct 3 to Jct 4 Widening and Jct 4 Upgrade;
    N3 Belturbet Bypass;
    N5 Longford Bypass;
    N6 Galway Bothar na dTreabh Multi-modal Scheme;
    N17 Castletown Realignment;
    N21 Killarney Pole to Barnagh;
    N22/N69 Tralee Bypass (maybe);
    N24 Ballysimon Upgrade;
    N25 CSRR Interchanges;
    N52 Macetown Realignment (North of Mullingar);
    N87 Ballyconnell Relief Road (Partial Bypass).

    Regards!

    Another great page here!

    AFAIK, the N52 Carrickbridge to Clonfad is now underway with site offices in place and a scheduled completion date of December 2012 according to this.

    Thanks everyone, I got the animation idea from Skyscraper City where some other peeps around the world have done similar things for their own countries.

    Oh, thanks for that Irish&P. Had been trying to get info on it from the NRA on another thread. I'll update my site.

    It's a bit sad but you'll notice that on my site I have things like Enfield to Edenderry listed even though this is an R-road - in this day and age you have to take what you can get!

    MYOB - I know! I don't have great info for Galway. The Oranmore BP opened in 1986 (from a Sabre thread) but the Galway Inner Bypass part that the M6 joins to was sometime from 1995-2000 according to OSI emaps. I'd need more detailed info here. There's other stuff like the Waterford Southern Bypass, but this is an R-road. Maybe for completeness I should be including these, but that'd never end.
