As it says in the title, whats the modern day "cool daddy" car?

Back in the day, cool daddy cars were for middle-aged men who had small kids and therefore needed a family car, but they always bought something a bit racey, something with a bit of grunt and swagger. You had various Vauxhalls / Opels, the Granada, the Bluebird, various Mitsubishi's. They were never posh, or new, they were just - cool! Cool daddys would never buy something pretentious or popular just for the sake of it, and especially not for the sake of buying a badge.

So whats the modern day cool daddy car? Unfortunately, I just cant think of any that would fit the criteria:(

Cool daddy? What is this, a 70's timewarp? :D

To answer your question though, the Subara Legacy/Forester meets the definition very well. I'd also hazard that the Insignia OPC fits the bill.

WOOOO WOOO WOO, back it up there. Are you saying the Bluebird was cool? Or cool dads bought it because it wasn't cool? or something else?

Think OP meant non german trio cars. An S-Line Audi is always gonna be cool! The 159 would fit the bill though!

In that case the Octavia VRS is in a very grey area :D

Other cars to include would naturally be high spec Mondeos, Civics, Accords, Mazda6 and for gadgets Citroens (C4/5)

Sadly they will all end up turning up at classic car meets in 40 years time in MPV's

Daddy`s car should be wat kids lyk, but my 4.5yr old prefers mommas fiesta over my sante fe. For kids its easier access... So my opinion cool dady car is car cant fall out of...

Audi S4 prolly too expensive to be cool family man car in Ireland. A Golf GTI would be the VAG contribution to the cool parent car (sadly) here. Yes or the Octavia vRS.

Legacy, specifically the Spec B, I'd say.

I'm thinking volvo. They usaully have a higher spec engine available (T5), even the focus equivelent can suprise people. Plus they always look understated.

    No Volvo R's?

Always used to think my Dad's 850R was the utter dogs bollox... 250BHP in a car that was more comforable and had more toys than your average sitting room.

I agree with the Volvo, S4s etc are for knobs :pac:

I think cool daddy might drive an older car, perhaps something like a Mercedes 320TE.

A nice mercedes c class for me. Too expensive though.

Some in kids in my school back in the late mis 80's were dropped to school in a white Audi Quattro sport....it was white and covered in logos... long before the boy racer things started.....

that was a cool daddy car...

Lets not forget kids are pretty thick. Anything that looks flashy and fast is cool. Though follow the herd isnt.
Legacys dont look fast, neither do Volvos (ducks Volvoman..), so no, I cant see how they are cool daddy cars.

Porsche Panamera.. nothing "cool" bout dropping 6 figures on a car. It might be a sweet, envious setup, but its not at all the point of "cool daddy".

Of course if you look at the clothes for teenagers in shops like topman, next etc and look at the hairstyles of young dudes these days (loads of them use hair straighteners ffs  ), does anyone want to be regarded as cool by them :pac:
