I'm going to attempt to debrand my SF tomorrow. Is the method on this website ok to use? Up to date and all with the newer models? Anybody tried this method and was it successful?

    http://www.chrislowthian.co.uk/how-to-unlock-de-brand-and-root-the-zte-blade-orange-san-francisco/1824/

It'll be my 1st time trying it and I'm scared :(

If you just want a debrand, you could follow those instructions alright. Installing a pre-rooted rom would seem to be a better idea though. There are good instructions on the modaco site.

well tried the upgrade cleared caches factory etc loaded rom from sd , phone loaded up and just froze had to restore back to original software

What rom did you flash? First boot after a clean flash can take a long time (like well over a minute).

Hmmm. So you have clockwork installed? I'd say just run a backup then try a different rom. No harm. Flibbles rom or the japanese jellyfish are the in-thing. I'd probably go with flibbles myself. Looks like less arsing tbh.

    edit: Link.

further edit: Wait a long time for boot. :)

I waited but up came a sim lock screen and the touch screen wouldnt work !!!
When re trying do I do a back up again then wipe then install or would the restore still be in the pipes?

The backup should still be there. Check in /sdcard/clockwork/backup/ (I think). You can just go ahead and wipe the bits (not the sdcard though :)) and try the new rom then. If it goes tits up, just use the clockwork backup.

Yeah, it seems one of the newer 2.2 roms should work for you. Your issue is mentioned in the "common problems" section here.

    I have a problem already...

my driver software won't install on my laptop. The modem installed but the USB didn't? Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭MC_G

Have you tried these drivers? They may work better as they're from the latest Japanese Release.

If they dont' work straight away you may have to force the install or the reinstall the drivers on windows.

Depending on version you'll need to do something like this:

Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager and look for yellow exclamation marks usually something like ZTE, HUSB, ADB or Android phone.

Click on the item and select driver then either install or update driver and then select browse my computer and navigate to where you've extracted the driver and install it from there. (You may need to ignore some warnings about it not being for the correct device and just click next!)

Try that first and post back if it still doesn't work.

I am on that ROM and Kernel, and it works well for me, but That-Guy (literally, it's his handle on MoDaCo) has gotten a good bit of guff for his guides for being simplistic rip-offs (and not originally giving credit to the ROM makers) of the better guides like StevenHarperUK's.

If you have Clockwork already, download the deSoftened r0.3 if that's your chosen flavour, run an md5 check, move to sd, reboot to recovery, choose/install zip from sd card and let it install, reboot (missing in the guide you used guide), and then do the same with the updated kernel .zip file and it should absolutely work.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

edit: Have you unlocked your phone or are you using it on Orange without an unlock? If your phone's still locked unlock it or you may have that issue on a few of the 2.2 roms.

sorry meant to say thats the store price not online. saw the argos price too, doesnt say anything about being out of stock on the website anyway. i went into play.com earlier and got the usual price but now im getting 209euro? who knows, id rather stick with orange anyway. one big q, is there really a big difference between tft and oled? is it worth paying an extra bit for the oled?

Right, I have been doing a lot of investigating into the kernel, and am optimizing a lot of things within the kernel configuration to make it faster... however fingers crossed it will work, the wifi driver (I am convinced that the driver is not 100% spot on with respect to battery draining very fast with wifi switched on), it is apparently an older driver for Atheros 6000, based on the specifications of the chipset used, the Atheros chipset is 6003, so will give this a spin up, and if all goes ok, it will be committed to github...

This battery drain with wifi happens under the modaco rom alpha 5.... so hopefully a few devs on modaco will sit up and take notice... :D

To be honest - OLED is taken off, and TFT in place, it is more popular.... so not worth the hassle or stress in trying to figure out which to get, the newer models now have TFT... :)

Thanks very much,i got the drivers installed and managed to get the phone debranded. I leave the custom ROM for a while yet. Thanks again =]

I bought my SF a month ago. I hAve unlocked it to the vodafone network and nothing more.

In the last few days the touch screen has been playing up. It sticks and won't respond like it should. Like when I go to swipe to answer a call it won't move. The only way for me to sort it is to pull the battery.

Did anyone else come across this problem?
Is there an easy solution or will I have to bring it back.
I'm completely new to android so any advice welcomed.

I just got a Blade and am having some troubles with the back cover (to insert battery) >_>, I don't really want to brute force it off, is there some kind of trick to it?

How long does it work for after pulling the battery?

I'd love to blame it on Orange's 2.1 firmware but it could be hardware related.

Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of people remaining on the Orange ROM who are actively reporting back issues.

Your best bet would probably be to return it to be on the safe side

You could try a different rom if you think you are capable of reverting it to near enough to stock just in case you need to return it though.

As for removing the back cover, just the tip of my thumbnail at the bottom starts to separate it, and then I run my thumb up along both sides past the volume rocker on the one side and to the micro USB on the other.

BE careful not to use excessive force on it.... or you could pop the spring for the power button on the back casing...

Modaco's ROM is out of alpha now and is available as R7, R8 will be out shortly.... :D

There may be a gingerbread in the works but its being kept very quiet! ;)

Can someone please tell me if I have to revert back to a orange stock rom to remove the blue tint problem on my camera ( I read this somewhere but cant find it now ) or if I put on Froyo ( Modaco's Rom, which does not need to connect to 3g to boot correctly?? ), will this clear the problem for me anyway?

Yesterday it happened about 5 times and would be anything from 5 mins to 2hours before it would happen again. Thankfully I only had to pull the battery this morning and it has been grand since.

I might have a look at inStalling a rom and see hoW that goes.

Failing that ill have to bring it back.
    Thanks

There's nothing preventing it now that they have the kernel source. You could happily use a 2.6.32 kernel with gingerbread source once you're happy to build from the open source effort and fix it up a bit.

Can I have your attention please?

There's a new channel on freenode, called #zteblade... am in there using my same namesake handle here... feel free to pop in on that channel, you may get a faster turn-around response time... :D

    Thank you!
(No, I am not the mod/chop on that channel either ;):p)
