The Ignorance of some boards users

Why do some people feel the need to respond to posts with rude and derogatory comments such as "what a load of crap, or "what a load of rubbish, is this down to a lack of intelligence in that they cant quite find the words to express how they feel about the subject in hand ? its something that the mods on boards seem to ignore or maybe because it happens so much they just dont notice it anymore. either way when a poster replies with such a response something should be done about it, ignorance is not an excuse if someone were to speak like that to your face what would you do ?

Sometimes it's not worth spending more than a "what a load of crap" on a statement made by some people.

Why are you asking this in AH when you'll know what's going to happen?

Perhaps because the post was a load of crap, or a load of rubbish?

For instance, if I said that the vikings just landed in limerick and were taking over the city, a response of "That is a load of crap" would be quite correct...

We would really need an example to say whether it was correct in its usage or not!

At Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the Tunneling Electron Microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe. Superfish, if I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate my interest in your problem.

The anonymity of the internet allows insecure people to vent frustration. They would be a whole lot more respectful if they were responding in person.

Yes I think so, though not actually lack of intelligence as even intelligent people do it sometimes. What it is… is simply that the person in question has nothing constructive to say on the subject but thinks that saying something is better than saying nothing at all.

So when you see people acting in this way what that person is thinking is likely "I will say this because it makes me think I am smart and other people will think so too". What they are actually saying is “I literally have nothing useful to add to this conversation at all but look at how good at posturing I think I am”.

The important question however is not why they do it, but why do you care. They are attempting to put down the other person but are succeeding only in demeaning themselves.

The same thing I do here. Ask them to adumbrate their reasoning for why they think so... and enjoy watching them flounder as they completely fail to be able to do it.

I don't know what that word means, therefore your post must be a load of crap.

Often I find the best way to say something, is the simplest way to say it...

    Is that ignorance?

Does that show a lack of intelligence?

lol yes to both, Ignorance is a state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge). The word "ignorant" is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware

just because some one is ill informed does not give us the right to verbally attack them, to show some common courtesy does not cost anything.

    But... This is the internet?

    Have you been here before?

If someone is ill informed they SHOULD be verbally attacked for not checking something is correct before they say anything.

But you are taking it as a verbal attack, as opposed to an opinionated remark on the previous statement.

Just because someone says "What a load of crap," doesn't mean they are unaware of what the other person is talking about. From their perspective they've heard / read whatever the other person said and from their view, it is a load of crap / bullshít and they don't see the point / need to justify it.

Would the first person not be showing ignorance by not re-thinking what it was they said?
