Just to tell you that all you need is a Sky HD Box.

You don't need to pay the Sky HD subscription as BBC HD is completely free on Sky.

Can some one clarify? I have the HD TV and Sky+ box, If I put the Sky+ viewing card into the Sky HD box I can watch BBC in HD without upgrading my subscription? This true?

yeah on channel 143 BBC has their HD service on offer so as long as you have a HDTV you will be fine. FOM released a few more details this morning the main ones being that it will be 1080i resolution and that all trackside cameras will be full HD but due to technical complexities the on board cameras will be upscaled SD for 2011. The main issues for the onboard is that they are too small for a full HD camera to be economically viable right now. I'd say once FOM sees the uptake of HD worldwide there will be a change in this decision.

A few more countries came out today and said they were going HD in 2011 with Australian TV just announcing the news as well as Brazil. The BBC has made no official announcement for their coverage in 2011 but it seems pretty inevitable that they will also follow suit

You don't need a viewing card to watch bbc hd, it's free to air. Will work fine with no card in your hd box

how do you get an hd box, do you just call then and ask for one or how much do they cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭mwrf

generally, any hd sat reciever will work, you don't need a sky branded reciever.

A HD box is free with Sky if you upgrade to Sky+, I think its an extra five euro a month for Sky+(well worth it in my opinion) and if you get a new connection you get it free for six months

i would have thought bbchd, being that it overruns if it rains etc...this way it wont clash with other sports or other major prime time shows:rolleyes:

I also post on an English based forum, I said it was good it will be on BBC HD as we get it here. I was told it will be BBC1 HD.

I just googled, on BBC site it says:
Danielle Nagler, Head of BBC HD and 3D, says: "Along with many, many HD viewers, I'm delighted that we'll have a chance next season to see Formula 1 in all its glory on television. It's fantastic news that FOM has decided to green light HD broadcasts, and we're looking forward to sharing with the fans all the races in all their detail on BBC One HD and BBC HD."

    So it looks like both.

Yeah, go out to the polling booth, vote, then come home and enjoy F1 in HD.

Any word on if Setanta being able to carry an F1 HD feed, or better yet, if Setanta are no more and RTE HD can broadcast it on DTT!?

    I have two questions,
    1. I have sky plus, can I get a free upgrade to a HD box?

    2. My TV is 720P. Is that good enough to watch HD?

No BBC HD is avaliable on the sky + boxes as far as i know. 720p is fine for watching in HD, it wont of course be as good quality as 1080p but you would really only notice the difference if you sat and watched the race on a 720p and 1080p tv simultaneosly.

Ive a hd box connected to a 720p tv via hdmi cable. Im not overly impressed. Is it that the 1080i is much better or have I been watching stuff that it not proper HD. Top gear for example on BBC hd, is this recorded in proper hd?

I just hope that the BBC HD channel on Magnet will actually display on the PVR box, so I can give the HD F1 a go...

Formula 1 is mostly shown on BBC One and the BBC will not simulcast the same thing on both BBC One HD and BBC HD.

Live races will be on BBC One HD with highlights on BBC HD. The only time that you will see a live race on the BBC HD channel is if BBC2 is showing a live race.

Not sure if this is true. I've recently noticed the same thing being on at the same time on BBC 1 and BBC HD. I don't have BBC 1 HD though.

You would have noticed that before BBC One HD launched. This only launched recently. They do not simulcast the same programming on BBC One HD and BBC HD

Minstrel....where did you get this info??
as far as im aware bbc2 showed the live races before itv took it over...where does the eastenders omibus and the politics show go? even the qualifying would mostly be bbc2 as to allow other saturday sport to show and buildups for main events..

Good bit of mixed up information on this thread. BBC HD is not available on the Standard Sky+ boxes. It appears on the listing, but can't be viewed.

Upgrading to a Sky HD box costs money from Sky, I think they were looking for around €149. However, if you quit Sky, and then sign up in your wifes name as a new subscription, you'll get the Sky HD box free and total installation will cost €45.

Upgrading from normal Sky to Sky+ does not cost anything extra per month.

You don't need Sky HD sub to get BBC-HD or BBC1 HD.

F1 will be broadcast on BBC1 as normal this year, which means it will be on BBC1 HD. The drawback of this is that BBC1 HD is only acessable via Other Channels and therefore can't be recorded.
Anytime it'll be on BBC-HD will probably only be the times that the broadcast changes over to BBC2 in the events where it over-runs it's schedule. Replays or highlights may also be on BBC-HD.
BBC-HD is on the EPG as channel 143, so can be recorded.

    That is all! :p
