    Jameson myself.

I think the staring is because they're thinking about getting your drink, where it is etc.

No, it's a fairly standard drink.

Ordering such beverages can be a very whiskey business.

It's because you are ordering whiskey but not Jameson. They think you have a hideous genetic disorder which caused you to be born without taste or class. They are just curious really, don't take it personally.

Friend of mine Sean, won't get served whiskey in our local, sends him loopy. So he gets strangers to buy it for him. (he buys them a drink first)
Anybody ordering whiskey gets a look that says
    "Is it for Sean?" :D

I like a neat Redbreast BTW.

Does it bug anyone else when a barperson puts it into an inappropiate glass?
A half pint tumbler with a small single malt in the bottom,
    Really grinds my gears!

Well what I meant is their reaction and staring and pausing when you ask. Its like you've ordered a nuclear bomb or something lol maybe a Jameson is equivalent to one of those? who knows? lol

Your problem is not getting a whiskey, it's buying that German Bushmills.

I sometimes get a funny look when ordering a whisk(e)y. It weirds people out to see somebody drinking it and not powering it down with a high fructose corn-syrup carbonated piss.

Tallisker is the best whisky I've ever tasted. It's not ridiculously expensive either at about 40 quid a bottle. That said, I did pay $18 for a measure in a new york bar. It's quite hard to come by here though.

You never go to a bar and just order a whiskey, that's wasting the barmans time.
You don't order a whiskey, you order your brand. And I see it's Bushmills from Co. Antrim, a fine choice

Don't know for a glass but for a 15 year old bottle we're talking 120 euro a bottle

I did order my brand. But believe it or not it was not bushmills this time but Jameson.

So what's the barmans problem that he hesitates before serving a Jameson?

I'd find a new local OP
