US Congresswoman Shot In Head

US Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has been shot in the head during an event in Tucson, Arizona.

US media is reporting six other people have been killed in the shooting with others wounded.
The gunman was reportedly shot and is now in police custody.
The congresswoman was holding an event called "Congress on Your Corner" outside a supermarket and had earlier tweeted for her constituents to attend.
Eyewitness Andrea Gooden told Fox News: "I heard about 15 shots consecutively and quickly after that there were people racing across the parking lot to the nearby store.
"I was working across the street...there was an immediate response and within a minute the sheriff and firefighters were on the scene."

Probably a right wing nutter. This is the type of thing you get when the biggest 'news' station in the US continually portrays the left as unamerican traitors - some nutjob may have finally acted on it.

I presume they will reflect that in their coverage of this tragedy...(probably by blaming the treacherous democrat for the deaths of the other people by placing them in danger

Sure I spent 3 months over there and completed an NRA course in basic pistol, which would've let me apply for "concealed carry" of a gun in Virginia/Washington DC, Ie. carry a gun on my person in daily life.

I know that a very contentious political issue in Arizona over the thast few years was the proposal to arrest and incarcerate illegal immigrants (mostly from Mexico). Maybe the shooting was linked to this? I wonder what Gifford's position was on immigration?

According to CNN, it was a law enforcement official who delcared she was dead but her press secretary disputed this and said that she's in surgery.

Oh the irony. If it was a disgruntled native who easily obtained a gun that was responsible, I wonder if Ms. Giffords will still be as keen on guns if she survives this attack.

WTF, IIRC then she is only the second Congress Person to be killed while on the job, the first being murdered by The People's Temple back in like 1978 in Guyana!

He said that one of the staffers tackled the gunman and that he and others helped detain the suspect. The doctor described the gunman as a white male in his mid-20s with short hair and “dressed in a shabby manner.”

Reports are that she was shot point blank in the head. If she does survive you'd have to wonder what type of life she'll be able to live...

And on the question of terrorism.... apparently the gunman was white, so I don't think they'll call it terrorism.
