Change those drivers ASAP, it sounds like you've got the dreaded Card Killer stuck fan bug!

You'd think they would have chosen a better name for it by now...

Considering how much the word FSB likes to be thrown in anywhere possible, might I suggest....

    CK-FSB? :pac:

It appears to have fixed itself with a reboot

It's now between 73-75C on full load :o

/edit: and getting cooler by the minute..

Thank God you posted that. Made me go check the Top 20 again, and saw I was over 1.5k PPD...

I had my 9800GT Folding for Boards for most of today. :p A few extra k for the team today at least. ;)

No, I did not wait to post this until I was in first; just a happy coincidence. whistle.gif

And keep an eye on that guy in 7th; seems shady... buttkick.gif

Would be nice to get him folding for us as he done his 8,000 points in just 6 hours.

On another note, I should be seeing a boost in my PPD in a couple of days as I will be replacing one of my X2 5000s with an X4 630. Note sure what PPD they get but it should be a nice boost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭zodac

Aye, he's got a nice Fermi to share. :p

As for the X4, should get 4k comfortably, up to 9/10k depending on the OC.

Eh? How does one get 9/10k on an X4? Have a 125W 965BE myself- get 4k PPD when not folding with the GPU client. Biggest disincentive to fold with the SMP client is getting a WU requiring 24 hours+ of folding time over a few days.

Quad core CPUs get 9/10k PPD at 4Ghz (and when not Folding a P6701).

Closer to <8k even for an i5 quad at 4GHz, surely? Plus IIRC its even less for AMD chips as they have the same processing power as a Core2, Core-i are more efficient per clock cycle! So logically it would be more like <7k PPD for a Phenom quad @4GHz...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭zodac

Nah... I'm going by old quad CPUs. A Q8200 and Q9550 @ 4Ghz got 9-10k PPD (this was before the P6701s though). And the AMD X4s were pretty much the same, at anywhere between 8-10k PPD.

Alas, times have moved on. By that same token my stock i5-760 should be getting ~8k PPD (slower but more powerful per clock). Instead it gets just under 6k PPD and my 3.33GHz C2D half that on average thanks to P67s :o

Not quite; like I said, the PPD values don't apply to P6701s. But get a P6020-P6024, or even one of the P605xs, and then they're still the same as before).

Have just received my X4 630 it is only an Athlon II and is at 2800MHz stock.

I have just done a bit of overclocking on it and have it at 3640MHz(stock volts).

I am running a 6701 WU as usual and it is working at just over 13mins a frame, this should be good for a bit over 5000 points per day.

Will have to do more overclocking and tinkering as it has more to give.

You should be close to 6k PPD with that as it is ;) Nice one :D

Aye... a Fermi and a couple of -bigadv will do that. :p

Gonna miss him here when he heads back to OCN; it's making us real competitive. :)

I'm going to try and convince the boss here to allow me to install a client on all the office pc's here. They are nothing special, but it should be a few thousand PPD's. I wonder, is there a iphone or ipad add yet?

Any idea on how long it would take a new client to reach a steady output level and give a good idea of it's production?

Awesome. :D What kind of CPUs do you guys have?

And no, no app for Folding on an iPhone/iPad... unless you were looking for a monitor or something?

3%... nVidia GPUs will be <5 mins, ATi GPUs will be ~15mins, dual cores will be up to 2 hours, quads will be up to an hour, and -bigadv client will be around 90mins to 2 hours.

I've a good lead on the rest of the country in BOINC credits, so I'll give it a few days of Folding and see how it goes. Installing Fermi clients is already needlessly fiddly though.

If you've only got one Fermi in a system, the systray client is a simple set it and leave it program. Just install it, enter your info, then let it run.

If you've got more than one GPU in a system though, and don't want to bother with the clients yourself, you can use this client manager:

I moved over the already started work/queue.dats from the pre-existing clients and it's running with those happily. It's predicting about 28k PPD from the GPU's and I'm still waiting to see how much it gets from the CPU.

iPhone/iPad would be useless unless it was for monitoring, their processors would take forever to complete a WU, and aside from that, the battery drain would be insane.... as if iPhone battery time isn't bad enough!

Just set HFM/etc to upload a web page every now and again... then save that as a bookmark on the phone :p

What CPU have you got, and at what speed?

Yup... got a guide for that:
