This is the current top 10 producers for the boards.ie folding@home team.

All the results can be seen here:

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=39432

rank. user. 24hr average. points.
1 Anti` 631 48,430
2 deRanged 320 727,081
3 rwallace 235 83,221
4 Cronan 185 145,348
5 Mutant_Fruit 175 12,836
6 zippy28 147 1,422
7 Matthewthebig 112 5,082
8 *gline 83 117,422
9 nipplenuts 65 452
10 as_seen_on 61 777

As you can see, I am the current highest producer. My average was around 250. but since adding a x1950pro graphics card to one of my pcs that has now risen by 400 points. The only problem is i cant seem to have the cpu and gpu clients running at the same time:(

Im ranked 31st now. Wont be moving upto the top10 any time soon as i only use Folding program when im on the internet when at home. For about 2months i left my computer on 24/7 but my parents started saying there ESB bill was high and this was all because of my computer :P

Just use my crappy amd2500+ chip for folding also.

Also i like to add there are alot of inactive people in the Boards folding team.

I've been crunching this same Gromacs WU on and off since October. :o

I installed F@H on all my works computers, yeah there is only 3 of them but also doing from my laptop which is on 24/7 as are the ones in work.. so for my bit it helps!!!!

Pah dont listen to them. I have 2pc's and a laptop constantly on folding. And there is hardly any difference in the bill.

As for the inactives yes, there are quite a few. But it matters not. As the few of us that are folding are more then doing there share for them.

I was active for the whole of a week, then I get Wow at home and find it refuses to play with FOH running, and then the proxy in work takes a freaker(password change ever 4 weeks) when it starts getting 7 machines trying to bypass it using the wrong proxy one morning.

So F it. I'v got better things to do.

Krazy... have you ever tried the console no frills version? I find that using the all dancing all singing client pisses around with some games etc. Try the no BS console version. You should get a few more points too.

Maybe you'd be interested in trying another app... like worldcommunitygrid or another??

Why not? Is that on the opty rig in your sig? You do know that the graphical client needs a full CPU core to run it aswell. In future versions, we might see CPU usage go down.. But at the moment... GPU folding = GPU + One CPU Core.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 12,401 ✭✭✭✭Anti

Yeah i know that. But for some reason it just wont run 2 clients. I tried the fah forums, but as usual they were less then helpfull.

So.... will it run either client on its own. Also.. remind me. Opty? Dual core? Not up on AMD chips much.:D

It will run either by their own, but not together. Ive tried settinf different affinitys but no luck. And yeah the opty is a dual core.

I might go back to the console version on my home rig, but work is just a no go area atm. Proxy just freaks out after a short period and blocks the FOH client.

Just had a thought on this issue....A bit late perhaps :D

It's not down to affinity...the CPU will look after this itself. Yo need to make sure both clients are using different machine ID's (set when you first start the client or using the -configonly flag). Also run both clients from different folders and make sure they have the -local flags set for each client.

Don't know why it took me this long to think about it....or even why I was still thinking about it

Since the lack of internet at home i am down 4 clients. And the lack of my x1950pro means no huge points :( And the SMP clien has stopped working on my c2d laptop :(

But, i will be back with a vengance.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭hopeful

I was wondering what had happened to you Anti...when will you get net access back at home?

I'm running my two PC's flat out....the SMP client has been amazingly stable for me....rebooted the PC it runs on for the first time in 20 days last night and that was only because I updated software that required a reboot.

I think I'm going to have to swap out the skt 939 board in my 2nd PC for another Core 2 Duo soon....I feel the need for more points :D Hopefully if I'm careful my better half won't even notice!

Hahah. Good luck with that. ;)

Yeah, i moved to rathmines, so im waiting on BT to connect me up. IT was meant to happen last week, but BT being BT they take their time.

I just picked up a abit Fatal1ty board last night, now im just waiting on a c2d and some ram and a case, graphics card.... Jesus... The money spending never stops :(

I would too if my ps3 worked :/

Also, since i left microsoft they must have noticed i borged a few machines there :( And the pc's in here are all p4's so their not even worth installing f@h on.

If you want a really quick boost get a ps3. As soon as mines back from repair it will be used 24/7 to only fold.

I think I'll get one next week. A guy I was working with was telling me about their research into distributed computing using PS3s. They have 40 for testing!

I also have another 8 core machine on order.

Unfortunately, I also have someone looking for about 6 years worth of cpu time, so I'll have to switch folding off on most of my machines.

I hear they consume around 200W when folding! Probably still more folding per watt than an x86 machine though.

I'm contemplating running a second client on my E6300 but I think I'll get a better heatsink first - only got the stock Intel one on it now and running one FAH all the time puts it up to around 47-52 degrees. The SMP client still seems to buggy right now, and apparently is only worthwhile with 4+ cores.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 12,401 ✭✭✭✭Anti

You c2d is safe up to 80c. I doubt running a second client would produce more then a few degrees more heat more then what you are currently getting. And id be amazed if a ps3 uses 200w for folding, my housemates pc usuing a c2d, 8800gt etc etc only used 220w when pushed to the limit.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/03/sony-says-the-40gb-ps3-is-still-using-90nm-chips/
the 40GB model ... does feature an updated design with a lower power consumption of just 120 to 140 watts, compared to 180 to 200 watts for the older models.

I don't know if those are under normal circumstances or when put under a high load or what. I'd say games would consume more than just FAH, due to the extra processing and possible use of more of the Cell cores.

I measured power consumption of my PC last week: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055251509

I'd like make my system quieter first. Using SpeedFan I can keep the chassis fans at 50% when everything's under around 45-55 degrees, but it gets pretty noisy after that (only really happens when playing games at the moment, or in the summer).

Need to get more RAM too, especially if I'm gonna do two large WUs simultaneously (they usually use around 50MB). I only have 1GB, which I reach pretty quickly when doing video stuff.

Oh yeah, I convinced my friend theCardinal to join our team, and got Trumad back in action after realising his client was re-configured at some stage to anonymous :)

On closer inspection of running 2 clients, there doesn't seem to be much of a temp increase at all and I realised my graphics card fan can go a lot slower when idle - so I now have more folding and less noise!

The team's rankings were starting to go seriously downhill after deRanged had to downscale his output, but Aidan Walsh has come out of nowhere and started doing some serious work recently. We'll beat... Team Overclockers Chile in no time!

I started overclocking a bit recently (need to get better RAM though before getting any real results), and borged a few machines in college as a graduation present :)

Seem to be lots of very small WUs going around the last few days.

Just dropping in to say hi. I've started folding a couple of months ago and steadily rising through the ranks. 3 oldish PC's and a PS3. The PS3 is doing most of the grunt work, though.

A lot of inactive players at the moment.

PS. Position 15th at the moment. Should be in the top 10 by about April :( unless I can grab a few extra PC's
