I have looked on here but can't find the answer so here goes.

I'm looking to replace the antenna on my parents house in east Limerick. They are on analogue ATM and just want to receive RTE 1 + 2, TV3 and TG4.

Could someone recommend a suitable good quality antenna that will pick up these channels and maybe also pick up DTT when analogue is finally turned off?

If you are getting good analogue TG4 or TV3, then your existing aerial is probably OK. Try it for DTT, it should work.

    Possibly:

A six element triax VHF vertical

    and

A Triax Yagi Supergain18 CD horizontal

    Both pointed to Maghera.

Will get the analogue and/or digital

The existing antenna is on its last legs and needs to be replaced

I take it these would be supplied separately? I'm hoping for some kind of a combined job off-the-shelf.

Where in east Limerick? How many aerials are installed at the moment, 1 for Woodcock Hill (north of Limerick City), 2 for Mullaghanish (S West - Cork/Kerry border)?

Depending on the location it's either Mullaghanish or Woodcock Hill or both.

Woodcock Hill requires one aerial - UHF Group B for both analogue and digital channels. Mullaghanish requires two aerials for analogue (VHF RTÉ 1&2, UHF TV3/TG4) and digital channels (UHF) - VHF (e.g. LP7) and UHF Group A.

I purchased my aerials at Urlan TV on Clare St in Limerick.

I out the Tipperary road from Limerick (Dromkeen area).

Looks like I should be pointing at Woodcock hill? So UHF only?

UHF Group B aerial (yellow tip) for all channels analogue & DTT with aerial pointing in the direction of Limerick City. I assume your existing aerial is receiving from Woodcock Hill.

There are Three transmitters available in Limerick Woodcock Hill, Mullaghanish and Maghera. Most aerials erected prior to the early 1990's point at Mullaghanish but in a few places Maghera comes in better.

Since Woodcock Hill came on air most aerials erected since then point at it.

Woodcock has the advantage of all four services being on UHF so only one aerial required.

If using Mullaghanish or Maghera bear in mind analouge transmissions will be ceasing within the next couple of years so the seperate VHF aerial for RTE1 and 2 might be somewhat of a waste of money.

Mitchelstown also soon for S.E. Limerick Digital TV.

A DTT setbox is similar price to a professional aerial install for VHF. At this stage no-one needs to get VHF TV aerials installed.

For a house with several TV's of which 1no maybe DTT compatible, the installation of a VHF aerial would allow RTE1 & RTE2 to be viewed on the other TV's, thereby giving the owner more time to achieve a complete changeover to DTT.

Depending on whether another transmitter which doesn't require VHF is available to the person or not of course.
