Hi all, I've noticed for a while that when I am making a turn, especially a sharp turn or when I'm manoeuvring, I can hear a thuding sound , and now with that there is a low whining sound. what could this be? its a peugeot partner. thanks.

I had a problem like this in 2 previous cars and both times it ended up being the CV joint. It's the joint with the rubber boot just on the rear side of your front wheel. As far as I can remember the rubber boot should hold the lubricant for the steering joint and if it fails the lubricant aint there and you have metal on metal it is'nt good.

Whining sound could be the pump, check power steering fluid reservoir for correct level. CV joint would clack rather than thud so dunno what the thud is to be honest.

power steering fluid more than likely, esp if the sound gets louder the more you turn the wheel

Turns out it was the passenger side track-rod end, the guys in the DOE test centre said they'd replace it parts and labour for... wait for it...€90!! That's most likely a fair price, but I went and bought the part in consort motors on the Drumcondra rd. for €15 and did the job myself, which was an easy job, but I had to get it aligned after fitting.
