Yea I think I only saw the nice part of Trinity. We went into Trinity, and walked around because we were early. I can't remember where but we kept going straight on and ended up on a path between two fields. We then came back in a different way and ended up beside some half-completed sphere thing, and from there went to the Arts Block where the revision lectures were! It all seemed really nice then - helped by the fact that it was a really sunny day! (EVERYTHING looks better in the sun!)

Aye between the cricket pitch and the rugby pitch. The area around the museum building is lovely. I don't like the Arts block, I generally like old and new looking stuff, nothing in between and never the twain should meet. But they do. :(

Maybe it's just my general malaise that makes me dislike blue skies and sunshine. Or maybe it's that I know everyone likes it but it just gives me a headache. :pac:

I don't like the Arts Block in UCD either as it's all very dull - there is very little natural light in it! But there are other really nice buildings - such as the Health Sciences building and the Quinn Business School building! There's the School of Architecture which is a bit of a walk from everything, but is really nice - it has a quad and everything :D

I know I'm gonna embarrass myself with this but what's a quad?

    Bed now!

It's sort of like a square on a university campus, usually enclosed by other buildings!

Jeez, that can't be Trinity! The have snipers watching for you to walk into the grass. One toe in and you're a dead man/woman.

Haha yea, when I was in Trinity they had signs all over the place saying Keep Off the Grass. Although it did look fairly immaculate!

UCD would look nice with a quad. It does have a lake though, but the rest is fairly concrete unless you walk a bit out of the centre of campus :P

I know, they always have the signs. <_< Yes it's very pretty grass in fairness. Just a pain in the whole to have to walk around it. GAWD.

UCD is a big all over the place tbh. The lake was all frozen when I was there for the open day! T'was coooool!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

Yea the lake was frozen over for ages. All the birds that normally land/swim in the lake were all over in one small unfrozen section - it must have been freezing :O

    **Timbuk2** - call that a quad?

    THIS is a quad:

    407CD899456E4DDD91F11E309A987AE1-500.jpg
Looks beautiful when lit up at night.

UCC as a whole is quite a pretty campus actually. Until you get to the Kane building! :pac:

As for other campuses I've seen, CIT is undeniably very ugly - even students there will admit that. UL is quite nice but everything is ultra modern and red brick - no nice old buildings around.

Trinity is quite nice - the cricket pitch is awesome.

UCD is just too damn big.

Yeah, have to say that even when I'm so sick of college and want to burn UCC to the ground, walking past the Quad reassures me and reawakens my love for the place.

Have to say QoL, your Quad looks quite impressive. Of course, it has the unfortunate and unavoidable problem of being in Galway! :p

Easter is on the 24th of April? That's the day before my birthday, I don't remember it ever being that late!

I'm not even going to try and argue that UCD has the nicest quad. Swim in our lake and get a €1000 fine and a tetanus shot thrown in too!

Says he in Cork :P UCC is the only campus I haven't been in, for the unis anyway.

NUIG is a bit of a mixed bag. Quad is lovely and so is the view of the college from the far side of the river...

    nuig7m.jpg

But then theres the monstrosity that is the concourse. Its a protected building:eek:

    CIMG0826.JPG

On the plus side it has Irelands longest corridor...

Which is FREAKY when you're on your own at night.

I think the IT buildings are one of the nicest on campus, looking at them from the outside if you walk along the river til you get to the back of them.

I like the Kingfisher, and I think the new engineering building is gunna be nice....places like that fecking Aras de Brun are disgusting though :/

Apparently the money ran out before the fourth side of the quad in UCC, or Queen's as it was then I suppose, could be built.

I was in NUIG for the first time over the Summer. Having a quad with four sides just seems strange to me now.

That part isn't AS bad now with the lobby thingy, I think.

Quite like the IT one as well, also the Cairnes is nice...Aras de Brun  No idea which one that is.

It still looks like an Soviet apartment block.

The other side of the building site beside Arts Millenium, theres a little gang of odd looking about-to-fall-down buildings over there.

    Ha, unfortunately ya!

The stairs feel like they're going to fall down any minute, the computer lab is surprisingly good though.

the Quad in UCC may LOOK amazing at night, but the sprinklers are there to deter you from ( perhaps with a sum of alcohol in the system) skipping and dancing across it...

The cathedral beside the college in Galway is intimidating at night. Tallest building around and it lights up

That is one creepy picture of it

I've never been bothered by any of the buildings around there at night, although usually in a group!

I'm not even going to try sleep this early, I'm gunna embrace the terrible sleeping patterns for the next week!

I actually quite like that picture! Makes it seem kinda cool and modern. Tbh I loved the cathedral there, pretty impressive and beautiful building.

    So do the myths!

It rained the two days I was in UL and NUIG so there will forever be bad memories of the places :pac:
