I'm contemplating if staying up all night is less effort than going to bed. Hmm

Best thing is going and getting a breakfast roll around 8am., think I'll do so tonight.

Same, I'm not even tired so I think I'll just stay awake

It's awesome, seriously. Mace on the Castletown Road probably has the best, frigging huge with everything on it. If you think you could ever match my amazingness try a litre of milk with it. :pac:

Mace on the Castletown Road? Very interesting because I am always wondering where in Dundalk does nice breakfast rolls - the shop nearest me does breakfast rolls, but the food looks like it has been there for a couple of days, so it's just weird :P

That's because you weren't up all night to get there at the right time. :pac:
Their stuff is very "heavy", fills ya up a lot more than it looks. TBH I'd say it would do most normal people two breakfasts, but I ain't one of them. :pac: I'd say to avoid the black pudding though, not a big fan of it in general and not nice there at all.
Londis on the Castletown Road up by Bridge St. do nice ones too, possibly nicer but nowhere near as filling, but whether or not they'll have the stuff when you're in is another thing altogether.

If you ever want tips about belly-busting food in Dundalk let me know. :pac: super supper for a fiver in the China Kitchen is fantastic, though I think most people know about that now. :pac:

We used to go to the Bridge Street Londis for lunch in secondary school sometimes. That and the good 'oul Chip 'n Delis haha!

What's this super supper? I've never heard of it and it sounds VERY interesting :) Where exactly is the China Kitchen?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,315 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

I actually like the salad rolls in the Londis. Not a fan of the Chip n Deli.

China Kitchen is on Park St., more or less directly across from Abrakebabra. Super supper is basically a big 3-in-1 with 2 nuggets, a sausage and a burger thrown on top of it. :pac: Also mushrooms, onions and peas if you want them. Nugget supper just has 5 nuggets. I'd heard about it and when I got it I didn't think it looked that big, it's a goddamn huge meal though. :D

If you've ever seen me you may be getting some insight into why I look the way I do. :pac:

That sounds amazing :O! Is that deal on all the time, or only on certain days/times, etc.? Definitely will be going to that sometime in the coming week!

Learning about these fast food places is probably the wisest thing when I have plans for epic exercise after the Xmas period :P Oh well :L

I started a thread in the Louth forum a few months back about the nicest takeaways in Dundalk - some good suggestions in there! I've always liked the Kingfisher takeaway! It's fairly reasonably priced too!

It's always that price, they actually haven't changed their prices since I started going there which would be at least 6 years ago.

Kingfisher is good alright and cheaper than a few places. Their have pounders, mmmmm. Though I find it hard to beat Tony's half-pounders.

Wait til you're back in college to start exercising, Christmas isn't over til your first day back. :D

Thinking of quitting smoking next week and as I was typing this was trying to figure out how long I've been smoking, remembered what age I was when I started but it seemed to be less than I thought, then I realised I was thinking my current age is a year less than it is. :pac:

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

Quitting smoking would be such a good thing to do - think of the money saved! You should definitely try it anyway! I think I saw a Giving Up Smoking forum somewhere on boards. (I'm amazed at how many forums boards actually has - I keep discovering new ones randomly - d'ya know there's a Mustard forum!!)

On a similar but not so serious note, I should probably give up Coca Cola. I drink a serious amount of it, and I have no idea why. I'm not sure if you can be 'addicted' to a soft drink (or maybe you can as it does contain caffeine - is caffeine addictive?) but I'm close to it anyway! I'd probably save money on that as well!

My New Year's Resolution - to save money considering I'm jobless :P I used to have a job in a pub but that's gone now :(

Unfortunately I bloody love smoking. :P Probably won't be successful but I gotta try anyway. Money is a bit of an issue now, made more than one drunken purchase over Christmas, being able to remember credit card details when sh$faced is not a good thing. :pac:

Caffeine is well addicitve. In fairness I know a helluva lot of people who spend a lot more on coffee than I do on smokes, probably costs me 3-4 quid a day, which is still way too much.

Good luck with that. I'd love to get work but I've a bone illness, think it's called bone idleness. :pac: It's annoying never having money to do stuff but I value free time waaaaaaaay too much.

:O OMG that must be terrible! Luckily I don't know mine but I might still know where my CC is! What I hate is how easy it is to purchase things using paypal - the actual CC doesn't need to be anywhere near me! Perish the thought - I might get ideas!

I too value my free time :P Being an 18yo first year student makes finding a job fairly difficult too, as I have basically no qualifications or much experience. I can hardly expect a job where my own qualification is a Leaving Cert (which isn't actually a qualification). Half of my 3rd year is work placement which is fairly scary as you have to interview for a job and everything - has to be done though!

I'm toying with the idea of doing the Aviva Ignition Driving Test soon to get a reduction in the insurance premium (it's kind of like an 'advanced' driving test, although not really advanced - they just assess your driving for about 30 minutes and if you pass you get a reduction - every little helps :)). Slightly afraid I won't pass though - I failed my first driving test for driving too slowly :P. Although I got a blank sheet on the second one three weeks later (I sometimes include that bit so I don't seem inept as a driver :P)

Although, the road to hell is paved with good intentions :P

I failed the theory test a few months ago. Got 37/40 when I was 15 and dicking about, 33/40 when I actually tried. Though I completely forgot about it and about 30 minutes before it started I remembered so I had to get ready and get photos taken on the way. Stupid thing gave me 3 questions about tractors and more maintainence questions than I thought existed. :pac: Ah well fcuk it, won't be getting a car for a good 4 years at least unless I win the lotto.
You should definitely go for that reduction thing though, isn't it like a third off the insurance or something?

None of my course is a work placement and I'm going to leave college hopeless tbh. Fcuk it sure, I'll be old enough to get the full dole by then anyway. :pac:

That's crazy that you passed but it didn't count - a bit of a silly system when you think about it!

There were some very odd questions on the theory test. Most of them were ok, but I remember there was one that used to annoy me - some picture of a motorbike on the motorway or something - they used the same picture for multiple questions, each of them identified different hazards so it was hard to know what the right answer was. Also stopping distances - while it's good that people get an impact of how long it takes to actually get a car stopped at high speeds, learning off stopping distances in madness - I can safely say I don't know any of them offhand now! Not that you really need to - in an emergency I'm not going to ponder what speed I am going, taking into account if the road is wet or dry, and then calculate how long it will take me to stop. More practical rules, like the 2-second rule, make a lot more sense!

I probably will do the Ignition thing, I'm just nervous! It has to be done in the tester's car, but that shouldn't make a huge amount of difference! But at least it's free, unlike the actual driving test which costs €75

Ah I only passed when I was setting up the disc on a mate's computer, wasn't a proper test alas. :pac:

Got a few other well stupid questions about tunnels and stuff. Meh, I'll pass it handy enough if I make an effort next time.

Aye, gonna be a 6 month wait between the theory and proper test from now on, another pain. Would be funny if I do my usual thing of scraping passes in exams in the real one then can just go abroad and hire a car on holidays. :pac:

Tempted to hit the bed, I've been reduced to leaving TV Scrabble and 2 and a Half Men on the TV. :(

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

Ah right! I'd advise getting the theory test over and done with, even if you're not intending to take the actual test for ages - something less to worry about, plus once you get your Learner Permit the 6 months wait will start to count down, even if you don't drive at all!

Good night! I'm definitely going to stay up now, much less effort than going to bed :P My mother will be up in an hour for work, so I'll pretend like I'm up bright and early :P

I'm playing Half Life 2. Completed the game twice before but it's amazing so it deserves to be played a third time :P

Even if the temptation to go to bed wins it'll be another half an hour before I give in. :pac:
Ah first person shooters, how I hate them! Yahoo! Pyramids for me. :pac:
Work on a Sunday? Hate that. :pac: Keep forgetting it's Sunday, gonna have to get ready for mass soon.

I don't normally like many FPS... but Half Life 2 is really enjoyable! Even the original Half Life was brilliant!

I love all the Grand Theft Auto games as well - they're my guilty pleasure :P Especially San Andreas!

Yea I've completely lost track of the days what with Christmas/New Years/Being off from college! And Monday is a bank holiday as well... for some reason I hate Bank Holidays - everything is shut when you want it to be open, which just annoys me in general!

I hate Bank's opening hours - 10-4 is ridiculous - the only time some people can go is lunchtime, when it's the busiest! At least Ulster Bank are open on Saturday mornings!

This Monday is a bank holiday!? ****.
Aye the banks are a joke, Bank of Ireland looking to introduce fees for transactions, shall be moving on soon if it applies to student accounts. I really don't understand how before online banking people got their **** sorted, especially if working a good while away.

I tried playing the first Half-Life, I'm sure it's an excellent game but I just can't play FPSs. ^_^
Have done very little gaming away from Forza since I was about 8 tbh. Have both consoles and a PSP but generally use them for watching TV shows. :pac:

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

I've never played Forza but I love the Need For Speed Games - especially Most Wanted!! I don't have any consoles. The only things we have are PCs and a working Sega Megadrive (which my brother and I still play - can't beat Retro Games :P)

Yea I heard about BOI - my dad is with them. I don't think the fees will apply to Student accounts - they usually don't, no? I suppose you'll have to wait and see! I'm with Ulster Bank, which I like because it's free banking, but I like it better having a Visa Debit Card instead of a Laser card - much more useful for using online than the limited Laser.

Well I *think* Monday is a bank holiday anyway - or some sort of holiday where they make up for New Year's Day because it's a on a Saturday. I'm pretty sure it'll only be the banks that are affected - the normal shops should be running as normal!

Not a huge fan of arcade driving games tbh. Have a Mega Drive myself. ^_^ Actually after the Forzas I've probably played Streets of Rage on the Mega Drive Collection for Xbox more than anything else. If I had cash I'd be picking up a Dreamcast and Saturn but woe is me. :pac:

Usually wouldn't apply but I've had a student account for a long time so it wouldn't surprise me if they move me off it. :pac: Only reason I got a credit card was for online stuff tbh, it's come in handy a few times but I'm a retard generally. :pac:

A quick google says it's not but who knows. Was surprised at how many places were shut today, thought after the cold spell they'd be looking to make up lost monies. :pac:
I have to say Easter is probably my least favorite of all the holidays, nothing on telly, no presents just everywhere shut. :pac:

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

Yea I was around Dundalk earlier today (well yesterday... w/e!) and the place was very quiet! But then again New Years Day is like Christmas Day in a way - most places take a day off!

Streets of Rage was brilliant - we used to play that all the time! And I agree with Easter, although I usually enjoy the time off school. I'm not sure if UCD have an Easter break, I'll have to check that one out!

EDIT: Yes! We do - 2 weeks from the 5th until the 20th of March! Nice one :D It's marked as Fieldwork/Study though - as if :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,315 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Trinners just give us the Friday and Monday off as I remember. We have a reading week too which I'll be spending mostly in Berlin. Yes, that's what I bought when drunk. :pac:

2 weeks eh? Screw you, I'm sure I'll still be finished before you for summer and back later in September! :pac:

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

    Haha, brilliant purchase :P

Yea UCD seems to have longer terms than other colleges, but maybe it only seems longer because it starts earlier... I don't go back until the 17th of January. The exams officially end on the 14th of May for us, and depending on the timetable I may be finished earlier (although probably not - the mathsy subjects tend to be near the end, I'm not sure why!).

Also, obligatory UCD > Trinners :P You may have the nicer campus, but we have a resident homeless man in UCD
    /pride!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,315 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Ah Goddamn it you're gonna be finished before me. Suppose that's what happens with no Christmas exams. :pac: Have an awful feeling though that the college are going to listen to the students and put them on in the next few years. :(

Pfft, the amount of time I sit around in the middle of buildings with my beard reading and doing fcuk all else I'm sure some people think I'm a homeless dude. :pac: Never spent much time in UCD other than Maths Olympiad and something else I can't remember, really didn't like the place somehow. Felt the same in DCU as well.

EDIT: Turns out Easter falls in our 3 weeks off before the exams, must be later than usual this year.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 7,396 Mod ✭✭✭✭**Timbuk2**

Yea, according to Wikipedia Easter is on the 24th of April, which is VERY late indeed! Which means that the two weeks I get off do not correspond at all - that's strange!

Awh it's a pity you didn't like UCD. I love it! It's a bit intimidating at first due to the sheer size of it and all the steps everywhere :P I was in Trinity a few times at Maths and Accounting revision courses but I really liked the place - it looks so picture-esque - like the English universities you see on TV!

Trinity has more in it than I thought, only really started wandering last semester. I'm not in the area with the nice buildings alas. :pac: I had a lovely October afternoon though reading down round the nice buildings when it was overcast, somehow the whole place looks "right" with a bright grey sky above it. It's odd too, I spent little time on my own in DCU and didn't enjoy it, now I have fcuk all except alone time in college but it doesn't bother me. Obviously TV shows and anime on the PSP help somewhat. :pac:

Yea I think I only saw the nice part of Trinity. We went into Trinity, and walked around because we were early. I can't remember where but we kept going straight on and ended up on a path between two fields. We then came back in a different way and ended up beside some half-completed sphere thing, and from there went to the Arts Block where the revision lectures were! It all seemed really nice then - helped by the fact that it was a really sunny day! (EVERYTHING looks better in the sun!)
