Need to replace my Sony Vaio Laptop battery - your thoughts on the price?

I currently only get 15 minutes from my battery, model number VGP-bps9/b (11.1v/4800mAh) and am looking to replace it. I have checked out Amazon.co.uk which was only source I could think of to look. Most of the decent sellers appear to have it for about 90 pounds sterling - is this the normal price for an official battery?

A few others have ones for about 30 pounds but they are generic ones.

Any thoughts or site recommendations appreciated!

The laptop itself is two years and three months old so unsure if it is worth paying that much. I also have to replace the power cord, but this is much cheaper at about eleven pounds.

Maybe generic from seller with good reputation, I think I've gone with ebay uk seller with good rating and clear warranty details before.

The bps9,bps9/b battery from official web site costs more than 100 pounds, Most of the cheap original batteries are used ones or stored for a long time. The best way getting a cheap and new original battery is to contact someone who had a new vaio laptop and doesn't need the battery. If you want to save more, try other brand vgp-bps9/b battery , Some the those batteries have higher capacity 5200mah,6600mah,etc,. However, you need to upgrade BIOS by installing driver the seller provided.

I am in the same position as your self and would be very interested to hear what route you went, also where are you sourcing the power cord as mine pops out easily and may need replacing soon.

    Regards

Still trying to sort it out, will let you know what way I go!

Also pm me if you want to learn of a last ditch method to save the battery recommended to me by a computer shop - it involves freezing the battery, didn't work in my case though.

Not sure if it helps, but a while ago I also decided to buy a new battery for my Vaio in Amazon. I decided to pay the 90 pounds to get one from sony sold at Amazon....

... when they delivered it, it was not Sony at all, but a "generic with good reputation".

I complained with them, they said I could send it back, but I decided to just keep it as I didn't want any further hassle of refunds/finding other seller etc.

2 months later my laptop motherboard died, and I although I cant prove, Im highly suspicious of said battery and very annoyed with myself.

    So there you go...

Wow you won't like my story so :P Bought one from a 100% feedback onAmazon for 11 pounds (generic)still working perfectly! I'd agree with your suspicion sounds like a power surge.

my experience of those cheap batteries is that they don't work at all or that they fail within a couple of months.

3rd party batteries are hit and miss. More often than not they do not have the advertised capacity or a reduced number of charge/discharge cycles. If you buy from the manufacturer, you'll get what you pay for and if not, you'll have a cage to rattle... at a price.

As they say, if you buy cheap you'll pay twice.
