The price of popcorn at the cinema!!!

So the little fella got vouchers for the cinema for christmas, so off we went today (Gullivers Travels with Jack Black - I'd highly recommend it:D), and because it was 'free' I decided to buy the popcorn at the cinema, rather than stopping off at a shop for cheaper stuff.

So I got a large popcorn between us and it was SIX EURO AND FIFTEEN CENT! And I got a sprite and it was FOUR EURO AND 25 CENT. And I asked for an extra bit of butter, and was charged 95 CENT for a squirt of melted butter.

I almost fainted with shock - we normally go to the kids club at the weekend, but always get the goodies in the shop on the way.

Seriously, a 500g bag of popping corn is 1.15 - you could make a hundred of the 'large' bags of popcorn out of it...and melted butter for 95cent???

Are cinemas the only organisations who haven't acknowledged the recession:confused::confused:

This recession crap is getting old.

Why do they charge so much? Because idiots still pay for it.

    I normally bring stuff.

But like I said, I thought coz we were getting in free today (well, I wasn't paying, the vouchers were), that Id get the cinema stuff.

    never again!

    Have you rang joe yet??

I never ever buy stuff in the cinema. I did get asked to leave from Clash of the Titans for bringing in a bag of chips and a burger though...

Why would they not charge it when you will pay it?

Cinemas charge so much because that's where most of their profits come from. AFAIK, they make very little profit on ticket sales and have to make it up in concessions. Personally I never buy cinema food.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    This isnt anyhting new.
Cinemas have been ripping people off on popcorn and sweets for years. I dont think the cinema would be the same without having to sneak your own food in.

For the third time, it's my first time to pay in in years - always bring stuff with me...

They charge whatever they like as they know fools will still buy it. THe price is displayed usually so you don't have to bother with it.

Sorry for said lame reference, anywhoo, Cinemas have always been rip offs, cineworld being one of the worst for it.

The 3d ones are over 9euro nowadays...they must be making a profit on that!

If the local cinema still did butter on the popcorn I might buy it. Seeing the prices in Dublin I'd never buy anything there.

It may not be obvious by looking at me buy I also have the ability to go an hour and a half without eating the odd time.

Most of the Cinema's are now owned by large companies who want to extract as much profit from the venture as possible. I was at that big one over on Parnell street? Used to be the Virgin Cinema place. I was served stale popcorn once so **** that, I bring my own popcorn from now on.

Your robbing yourself if you buy food at the Cinema, just bring it in your jacket or bag or whatever.

It's hydrogenated oil. They actually don't even call it "popcorn butter"; rather "popcorn oil"

I meant the manufacturers. Cinemas call it butter because it sells better than oil.

    Marketing genius tbf

UCI, the Lighthouse and the Screen are about the only Cinemas left that actually pop their own corn.

Cineworld and the like, actually have all their popcorn in huge bags all pre-popped brought in and then they just heat it.

Oh I have to be eating or sucking on something at the Cinema, even if just it's just a lollypop, Kojak style.

Nothing worse than sitting down with someone, both of you have Popcorn, Drinks, Nacho's, Pic n Mox, Hot Dogs, Ice Cream, Bag of Maltesers and the people either side of you have NOTHING!

Everytime you so much as touch your popcorn, they sigh!

    **** OFF cunt!!

Don't get me wrong, I hate nosiey eaters, people opening sweet packets, sucking their drinks when there is nothing left, crunching with their mouth's wide open .. but don't sit there with a face like a slapped arse, tutting cause someone bought some munchies and you didn't.

Oh and while I'm here, learn to whisper - I can't abide people who chat at the cinema.

Well i think that's how they generate most of their revenue from. Think of it from your ticket price possibly can't pay for the film, maintenance, labour utility costs e.t.c. Most of the ticket money goes to the production company. Where as in film advertisements and the food place pays most to the cinema owner.
Look on the bright side if there were no ads at the start and the food was cheap the ticket would cost way more

Has anyone ever been stopped for bringing in their own stuff?

"A medium-size buttered popcorn", the report said, "contains more fat than a breakfast of bacon and eggs, a Big Mac and fries, and a steak dinner combined."[

UCI in Coolock years ago now (almost 18 ) but we were stopped bringing Cans of Beer in to see Carlito's Way.

Seen a girl get a packet of crisps and a small bottle of coke taken off her in the IFI one night.

Crazy, seen as they don't even supply food.
