Does the Lord Mayor of Dublin really need a new Mercedes every year?

Imo, providing a brand new top-of-the-range Mercedes car for the Lord Mayor is a huge waste of taxpayers' money. The office is only a ceremonial one, attending the opening of a new SuperValu and ther likes. We all have to tighten our belts, so surely a bog standard Opel Astra would do the job for this fella.

Actually, why do we even need a Lord Mayor at all? Complete waste of money imo. Let's scrap it.

    Lets scrap all of them!
We have nationally elected representatives. That should be enough to represent an area.

Wasn't it a Volvo at one stage?
As already said, the car is supplied by the manufacturer / dealer.
Should really go for a more Eco friendly car though IMO

    T'was.

Until a few years ago. I've driven one, after it passed through a couple of hands.

Actually the concept of representetives in the National parliament representing their area (as opposed to the country as a whole) lies behind a lot of the gombeenism in Irish politics.

Why don't the county councillors take care of local affairs and leave the national stuff to the TDs?

No, the mayor (who no doubt is a politician to goddamn stupid to even get into the senate) should use public transport like the people of the city he is supposed to serve.

These leeches and their expenses are ludicrous and maybe if they got their heads out of their holes and led by example, people wouldnt hate them (as much).

ps I dont know who the mayor of Dublin is, and I don't care, elected representatives are down there with paedophiles in my book.

    In what way?

I dont think any amount of incompetence or greed shown by any of our TDs over the last 30 or so years even boarders on the evil of child abusers

A lot of the old cars are being driven privately, still, meaning that they are being sold on.

It's good practice if you buy a car new to sell it after a year or two while the value is still high, so if anything the City Council are being PRUDENT with their money.

I'm growing a little sick of these begrudging threads about a few grand a year on somehting like a car when there are still bankers, CEOs of semistates earning €500,000 and €1,000,000 a year. If you're going to start new threads in AH about wastes of money, start there.

    Your damn right.

He should get an annual membership of Dublin Bikes and let him get around that way!

What the hell is wrong with you? Is money and the economy so important in your life that you wish someone death bearing in mind he plays little to no part in the running of the country?

You're coming across as being nasty saying things like that.

This thread is about the lord mayor of dublin, not Brian Lenihan.
and I'm not "nasty" just totally cyncial and fed up with these eejits, like many other people are.

Eh, I think that's somewhat obvious considering he hasn't been mentioned in either the thread or the thread title.

No one cares how "cynical and fed up" you are with the government. Wishing death on people you don't know for no particular reason says quite a lot about you.
