Thread-starting anxiety

starting a thread is like hosting a party

you hope to entertain, you hope lots will show up and have a good time but before anyone has arrived you anxiously look at your watch and slowly become a nervous wreck awaiting the first guest

like with this thread, I am really nervous and having palpitations right now waiting for the first post to show up, I think this is the reason why some people never start threads, there is such a lot of pressure involved, if nobody replies and your thread starts nosediving down the page it's a sorry reflection on your personal worth and you may as well tattoo "social outcast" to your forehead.

The more I think about it, the more nervous I get. My stomach is butterflies at the moment, I am off to cook some sausage rolls and fill the non-alcoholic punch bowl. Please for the love of god will someone attend this thread/party and make it so that we'll have the bestest fun, otherwise I don't know what I'll do with myself

Because AH is an inbred community and if one of those 10-15 "regulars" starts a thread you can be assured the rest will reply like good dogs and get it bumped to the top with thank whoring comments and supposedly witty and unrelated remarks to provocative posts, whereas if someone new starts the exact same thread no-one will reply because they're a nobody.

Thats not true - i dont think people only reply to a thread or thank the OP because they recognise them, they do it because its a good thread!

Jeez, it's only an internet forum, don't think to much into what randomers think.

Worst case scenario is that you say something un-PC or unintelegent, then you have a 3 page cluster-fuck of people trying to be witty/smart and then you're thread disappears to 'beyond page 1', never to be seen again.

For someone who has just left school, you really have some warped views about the world already.

I really worry about the type of f*cked up views you'll have when you enter the real world, though there's always a glimmer of hope that college will knock a few of those sharp edged corners off you.
