Hi, just watched ear to the ground and saw a segment about a microbrewery in Co. Tipperary called White Gypsy. I checked out the website but unfortunately its not up and running. Has anyone tried any of beers and more importantly does anybody know where it can be purchased? I'm in the Waterford area. The guy seems to be brewing a Christmas special and I also caught a glimpse of an IPA which would be great to try out.

The main source for White Gypsy beers is Messrs Maguire in Dublin. All of their house beers are brewed at White Gypsy at the moment (though that'll change in the New Year when the new beer from the house kit appears).

They occasionally show up in specialist beer pubs like The Salt House in Galway, the Abbot's and Bierhaus in Cork and on the beer festival circuit -- next up the Cask and Winter Ales Festival at Franciscan Well, 11-13 February. He has plans for more bottled beers next year.

But as the programme said: the idea is for every town to have its own brewery. You should have no trouble finding Dungarvan beers in Waterford, and look out for Metalman, brewing in Waterford City from next year.

    Support your local brewery!

Thanks Beernut. I've tried two of the Dungarvan beers "Helvick blonde" and the stout. They were both very nice.

Any other information about Metalman? I haven't heard about it before.

They're still scouting a premises. Dunno about beers yet. I'd say it'll be a few months yet before they have any out.

    Watch this space.

That was an interesting piece about White Gypsy - are they selling in off-licences?

No, they don't really bottle at the moment, though there are plans for it in the New Year.

I imagine it will be promoted around Cork closer to the date. Basically every Irish micro has been invited to supply beer in cask, and preferabally Seasonal/Winter beers. Free in, all day BBQ etc.
