Its down..wonder how long it will be down...

It always goes offline this time of year. Something to do with the server provider wanting their money I think. They pull the plug till the site owner pays up.

Arrse are offering to help out - probably having IMO as a side site like Rum Ration et al. Hedgehog will fcuking love that....

i may have to make a special donation to Bad CO just to see HH get all bitter and twisted!

I wonder what the conditions of an Arrse bail out would be?

    - All references to rucksack are to change to the word bergan. Just for HH...

    - Cup of tea to change to brew.

    What else?

On a positive note, an IMO wiki could be hilarious all together.

    What else?

the name would have to change to Irish Squaddies Online.

it would be a bit like an old boys reunion - Hedgehog and Tropper66 could reminisce about life in the 6th (Gaul) Roman Infantry Division and how all the other legionaires (squaddies!) were wet behind the ears!

it was a cold winters night as we waited for Asterix and Obelix....

Boomer's ambulance/medical service website is redirecting to vade.ie as well.

I'd pay good money to see HH have to use Arrse :D

So what is the story with IMO? Do they need cash? I could offer them a server for a few months, depending on their bandwidth and storage needs.

they seem to be about €600 short - generous as your offer is, i think they'd be better throwing their lot in with Arrse: arrse is enormous, and has a significant media footprint.

it might make Tim Horgan choke on his own shite as well...

It's moving to Arrse, it would seem.

I know that the last time I saw the site the donation meter was only at 400 out of 1000 but I don't know if that is just for running costs or includes the charity money as well.

For sure, ARRSE and IMO are a good fit. €600 short means they must have been using a lot more bandwidth than I thought, although it would depend heavily on Vade's pricing model.

It's been an issue every year. Running costs are too high. If we covered the cost this year, would he not face the same problem next year?

Yeah it's a yearly charge. Not sure how the hosting costs are that much though. Unless I'm greatly under estimating the bandwidth that a forum uses.

I know he has the license fees for the software as well. It all adds up I suppose.

Probably, unless they moved to a cheaper host, or came up with some kind of revenue stream. €1000 a year on hosting costs is a lot more than I would have expected. I know vBulletin isn't cheap, but that's a one-off cost.

You just buy the license for vBulletin once. It's not an annual charge. Fora don't use a lot of bandwidth, unless you allow media uploads. They do take a lot of time to moderate, though.

Her's a random off topic military comment.

Was watching a piece on the DF on nationwide last night on RTE player, with a parked up APC - anyway I was pretty sure it was a mowag, but decided I'd check (eg plate visible). Typed the reg into cartell.ie and it came back as a Saab 9-5 :P

I presume this is a standard thing so the oublic cant see military vehicle specs, or is the database just wrong, or is all this non-public domain?

d'army aren't great with numbers. Bought an ex 2 cav bike, drivin it round for most of a year before noticing the tax disk and numberplate didnt match.

During exercises etc, things fall off. Sometimes those things are numberplates..

    Anybody else enjoying the snow?

Never seen anything like it up here in my lifetime, easily 10-12 cms in places.

Worst thing about it is I have no xmas shopping done yet and even the main roads are in an awful state. Took about 15 minutes to do a journey of usually 5 minutes today on the main road.

you sir are a man who avoids puddles, one who is good with colours.

i've got 8 inches (fnarr fnarr) outside, its going to get to about 14 inches by dark tonight, it dropped to -10c last night, and its going lower tonight.

lowest temp here this year was -17c, and its about a mile to a gritted road.

and yes, i do have a battered old 90 landy (blue with a cream roof for the conossuers interested among you...)

Well see I dont mind the snow, but my car is not to fond of it,so therefore I have to take to foot, which by all means is not the worst thing. What is bad is that I live 3 miles outside of the town and on top of a mountain, therefore the walking into town is easy whereas the return trip is a little more difficult and takes a lot of concentration not to fall on your arse in front of unsympathetic motorists!

Where abouts are ya anyway? At least you have gritted roads somewhere near you,up here they spread mostly sand for some reason!

very rural Shropshire - must admit the council are pretty good, the main road is always gritted and the grit bin at the roadhead is always full.

it is cheffing knobbing out there now - snowed all day, then as soon as the sun set the skies cleared and the temp dropped like a stone. wouldn't be remotely surprised to see -16c or so. used my plastics and snowshoes today - though the farmer who walkled past me in tattered green wellies made me feel a bit silly!

sand? why the fcuk would they spread sand - you might as well spread bloody tissue paper!

    Ah right!

Its getting to -12 in places here now but at least the snow has stopped.

Well see, with the big snow last year the council said " No way we will be caught out again and next year we will order so much grit when we spread it you wont be able to see the road!"

But,no,they didnt and they are running low,in fact they were running low 2 weeks ago with the first snow fall. The gritter went passed me today spreading stone chippings

But sure,at least its not raining! :pac:

sure they have no salt. I was going to write snow there...AGAIN :D but I'll sell them some if they're interested :pac:

faster going about on foot these days anyway. Decided to go to mass today. The rear end on the zafira got a bit lively in some places and then decided not to move at all in others. Shocking car in the snow

I presume it was a Deauville, you got a good bike there. Low mileage, serviced on the button, all original parts... and polished to within an inch of it's life.

A mate of mine had a Deauville a few years back, he sold it and got an RT1150. Says it was the worst thing he ever did, nothing but trouble from the BM.

Loving the snow! Makes up for snowless winters during the childhood! But must say having the gear right gear about the house is dead handy. Everyone else freezing the balls off in a pair of sodden runners. I'm stomping around in a pair of lowas with a montane. For once dont feel like a sap for spending money on gear that I dont get enough use out of! Toasty!
