Runners at a wedding

My friends wedding is in a few weeks, all looking forward to it. Should be a good day. Another friend of mine who will be at the wedding too, told me he'd be wearing runners to the wedding. Now, we're in our late twenties and I dont think I've ever seen this fella dressing smart for anything. I saw him at his uncles funeral, carrying the coffin, with a hoodie, jeans and runners on him.
So anyway, i said to him ''what the fúck are you wearing runners to the wedding for? Its not a teenage disco or anything. If you turned up in runners for my wedding, i'd tell you to go home''
He says, "sure i hate wearing shoes, i'd be more comfortable in the runners"
I just left it so after that, because i knew i'd just be banging my head against a brick wall.
Have you ever worn, or have you ever seen anyone wear runners at a wedding ?

Meh, if he wants to wear runners, let him. It's no skin off your back. Besides, I wouldn't expect the couple would be too bothered that your mate wore runners, the day is somewhat more important than that.

Its a personal view (and I accept everyone is different) but I would never turn up at a wedding wearing runners unless there was an extreme good reason.
It just a respect thing and I'm old fashioned.

Imagine how their wedding photos will be tainted by the presence of his runners. Their whole day will be ruined, and it'll all probably end in divorce. Your friend should have his feet cut off.

I was recently invited to a wedding. There was some cockup with the invites and I didnt get the invite until the day before the wedding. It was too late to rent anything and I had nothing nice at all to wear so I didnt go.

The couple in question were very disappointed I didnt show and the groom very pissed off, at the reason why.

I felt more guilty about not going afterwards than I would have about my appearance.

Offer to lend your mate a pair of shoes. Otherwise mind your own business.

I hate sh!t like that. Its expected that people make the effort, people are getting free food + a few gargles so they can atleast go to the effort of atleast putting on shoes and a shirt.

I also hate seeing people carrying coffins / in court with tucked out shirts or wearing tracksuits (why can scumbags never wear their shirts tucked in?).

Call it prejudiced against folks who cant afford suits. But when I see some cream cracker in court wearing a track suit, cap and sovereigns, I immediately think..yup he's guilty (I'd be a crap juror). If you can afford shiny new white runners, gold everything and designer tracksuits + hats, you can afford to go to pennys to get a pair of shoes, slacks shirt and tie.

I wore a pair of Cons to my debs, and people thought it looked well..rather than tacky/cheap/lacking in respect.

He needs to get over this selfish attitude that he's doesn't want to wear shoes and just wear a pair out of respect. Perfect example of a manchild imo.

Pretty bad form of the mate IMO.

It's only for a couple of hours and if you get a good pair of shoes they wont be uncomfortable.

I'm just of the opinion that it's only for one day and it's more out of respect for the bride and groom + he could always throw on the runners /trainers with a pair of jeans later .If people are saying he will look ok wearing a pair of Con or Vans and it doesn't look to out of place that maybe I'm not hip with it :pac:

I love my suit but I don't get why are people worried about this? Because the bride and groom might be upset by it? Why should they be so concerned? This kind of ****e is what makes weddings so unbearable.

Wearing a suit to a court appearance or job interviews or funerals (although you have to be a right c*nt to tell someone how to dress when they're really grieving) is a different matter, weddings are supposed to be celebrations, they're supposed to be a bit of craic.
