    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of any sprint clubs in Limerick?
Its been a dream of mine for a long time to run a proper 60/100metre race before im too old.
I am a student and tried the UL ac club but apparently they're mainly a middle distance club and had no coach for their sprinters.
Anyone got any idea's or know of anyone looking for a training partner?
    Thank you

    Hi Doctor,
My knowledge of Limerick athletics is close to nil. However have you tried Emerald AC who train at the UL track? Just a thought - give them a shout.

Generally speaking good sprint coaches are thinly spread, for the simple reason that there aren't a huge amount of athletes wanting to train for track & field as opposed to middle and long-distance stuff. You'll always get good numbers at juvenile level but those coming through to senior athletics are far and few between. Maybe you'll strike lucky though.

(ULstudent of this parish might have suggestions?)

    Hi.
UL Athletics club DO HAVE a sprinting section. I think they train 2/3 times a week on track + 1/2 gym sessions. Haven't seen them on the track lately with the weather (passed 4 weeks, maybe due to exams aswell).
Not who told you there is only middle distance, but it was not a reliable source. They do have some good sprinters and actually getting selected to run a sprint in the intervarsity championships would be your biggest difficulty. Look at the results from last year http://www.duhac.tcdlife.ie/iv/
You will see that UL came 1st and 2nd in the 100m final so its a pretty good sprint squad they have.
Next time actually go check with the club itself!

    Thanks Dave...
Im not going to name names here but i trained with UL a few times and each time I was told that no-one knew if the sprinters had a coach, and that there were only a few of them.
    So, who do I contact?
    Thanks

If you contact the clubs and socs office in UL they will give you contact details for the club.

Also, try Joe Chawke on the tuedays track session - he runs the track sessions and might be able to tell you where best to go

Actually, a quick google brought this up - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=141616102548639#!/group.php?gid=141616102548639&v=info (if on facebook), if not email - ulac01@gmail.com

The page lists John Carew as the Sprints trainer, so it would appear that they do have a sprinting trainier and section

UL has a very strong sprinting section. They trained regularly when I was there (graduated year ago) under John Carew. If you send me a pm I can give you his e mail and or mobile number.
