Thread title seems diplomatic enough when in the grander scheme of things and compared to other World cities, neither could even constitute as a city, so - which place in Ireland is better than the other? Also in conjunction to the City vs City thread - a bit fairer for the Dubs who were complaining last time. Cocking poll not working :p

    Which city 108 votes

    The Jewel of the Wesht

    Scumbagville
    100% 108 votes

Dublin is full of scumbags and pretentious ****. It's visually boring, over crowded, and full of **** and scumbags.

Galway is nice and small, people are nice, some crusty hippies but not too much.

Galway: Best Fish & Chips and they have an Ocean.

So, all those people who say:

    "Galway people haven't an ocean"

    You're wrong

Yeah, but they can't do much with it. Besides I don't remember the great Galways vs The Nth. Atlantic Ocean war where they conquered it and named it as their own!

Was in Galways city for the first time since I was a kid last March for a couple of nights. Really unimpressed, bit of a kip, eyre square is horrible, and any bar i was in at night had people getting thrown out for fighting etc constantly. Travellers all over the place. Probably wasn't going to the right places but I really don't know why culchies get their knickers in a twist over the place thinking it's so wonderful. Would much rather live in Dubbers.

    I prefer Cork to Galway.

Galway always seems too small, twee and overly clean. Also too many hippy types hanging around the place.

I'm from neitheir but Galway's way nicer. Very few junkies and scobes. Nice intimate city.

I'm torn myself. I always equate Salthill with between Dun Laoghaire and Seapoint.

    It's like choosing between sons......aaagggghhhh I can't do it!

    Galway.

Galway City is just a big Temple Bar!

now parts of Galway county especially Connemara are stunning!

Having lived in both I'd pick Dublin Galway is a fine spot but after a while you realise nothing really changes the same people in the same bars/clubs/cafes etc. having the same conversations day in day out.
There is more to do in Dublin and while yes it has bad areas its not like Galway doesn't have its own share of rough areas also.

I love Galway but it can be a fair boring town if your not a drinker. Dublin wins this one for me because the pubs are just as good and you've got the craic of the night before big matches up there as well.

Galway, Dublin has nothing to beat McDonaghs

    Best fish n'chips in Ireland

I am with comeraghs, Galway can be an overpriced Temple Bar with lots of fights urine and vomit. I find Dublin, Cork and Belfast safer, cheaper and there is a lot more to do. While I do enjoy visiting Galway, Dublin comes out on top.

Oh, forgot to mention the brutal Galway traffic and driving.

It does with part-time ones: usually student and/or German. :pac:

Despite their social problems, Dublin, Cork, Belfast and even Limerick are real. Galway is like a CGI city dreamt up by the tourist board and The Sawdoctors.

I'm from Galway, but have lived in Dublin for the majority of the past 10 years. I enjoy both places, but in reality, Galway is a small, provincial town. Hence, less pubs, restaurants, theatres, music venues and so on. It can get boring to be honest.

The one thing I disagree about is this legend of McDonagh's fish and chips, the single most over-rated chipper in Ireland. The vast majority of chippers in Dublin serve up better examples.

Hmmm...capital city with highest concentration of civilians in the entire country or tiny, seaside town full of students?

How is it possible to compare the two?

Dublin is indeed full of pretentious saps and scum, but so is Galway.

Because Ireland is full of pretentious saps and scum. End of.
