Win dinner for two at this great Italian-Irish restaurant.
Fusing Italian and Irish fare with a dollop of friendly service and lashings of atmosphere, Café Carlo is a little oasis just a minute’s walk from the spire. The restaurant offers a huge range of dishes, from tasty chicken wings with Carlo's secret sauce to afterwork tapas with a chilled glass of wine, so readers will be excited that they can enjoy dinner for two with a bottle of wine absolutely free! To win, just head over to the review of Café Carlo here: dublin.2night.ie/venues/after+dinner/restaurant/375/cafe-carlo.html
Then answer the following question: what number on O’Connell Street is Cafe Carlo situated on? Is it (a) 55, (b) 78 or (c) 63?

That Find Copan one - they're looking for mobile numbers and warn about possible expense. What does this mean? Do they send you premium-rate texts or anything?

LOL The talk of the town I'll be carrying it with pride. Seriously though if it is the one on wheels there is a certain relative I have in mind who would appreciate it far more than I. You gotta share the happiness.

I'm not entering that competition so this is all just off the top of my head:

The mobile number maybe just so that they can contact you if you win something (though read the terms and conditions and privacy poilcy - some sites will give your contact details to "interested 3rd parties" for marketing purposes when you enter a competition, though almost all of those sites give you the choice of opting out).

The "possible expense" may refer to you using your phone to access the internet during the competition - e.g. if you use WiFi it probably won't cost you anything, but if you have to pay for internet access on your phone then obviously there'll be an expense.

Another reason for my (much) earlier post about having a number spefically for entering competitions. I'm sure many people have a second email address also. Plus many mobile companies offer free sim cards (I know o2 do). My competition phone has had a balance of €0.00 since I received it almost a year ago :)

Thanks, Mossy - seems to be that way all right.

I'm cautious because I got caught a couple of times by those premium numbers when I entered contests by text.

    Hi all,

If any of you have kids there is a competition on Claphandies facebook page. You just have to "like them" - I won a voucher for a playgroup/playlab. Went to one of the playlabs before and they are great but no point entering unless you have small kids I guess - mind you they also do first aid courses so that might be of interest. www.claphandies.com

Glenisc also have a few comps on their webite at the moment. http://www.glenisk.com/glenisk-christmas-bike-giveaway

    Good luck to all.

    Bubble up!

It's the last week of our four weeks of Christmas competition which saw us give away four bottles of Pommery Champagne! And here's how to win our fourth and final delicious one: as it's a Prudence.ie exclusive competition, you'll have to head over there to find out what you need to do!

    Movie Magic
Opening in cinemas on December 26th, The Way Back stars two of our very own home-grown heroes Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan. A story of survival, solidarity and indomitable human will, the action begins during a night-time blizzard when seven prisoners escape a Soviet Gulag in 1940. With little food or equipment, they embark on a journey that will present unimaginable hardship and drama.

We've got ten copies of the book which inspired the film to give away and all you need to do is send us an email to win@prudence.ie with the words 'The Way Back' in the subject line. Don't forget to include your name and address and get your entry in before 9am on December 20th. Winners will be announced in the New Year.

Win A VIP Trip To Paddy Power Chase Day By Aidan on 4:12AM December 13th, 2010
    Category: Competitions, Racing

We all remember it vividly I'm sure. The day when our idyllic youthful notions of Christmas were shattered by the harsh reality.
Yes, it was the day when we were told Paddy Power Chase day wasn't a day every year when we got to run after Paddy Power, pelting our beloved boss with egg and pre-packed sandwiches, it was in fact a top notch day of National Hunt racing at Leopardstown. Ah well, if there isn’t one special day for pelting your boss with stuff, let's just do it every day.

The Paddy Power Chase is one of the highlights of the racing calendar in general and the Getting Pissed Over Christmas Calendar in particular. [Legal disclaimer – the getting Pissed Over Christmas Calendar is not an official calendar recognised by any of the world’s major religions, governments or angry spouses]. To celebrate we’ve got a really great prize to give away. We're going to give one lucky Paddy Power customer a VIP Trip for two to Leopardstown for the day. And the best thing about it is, due to our Marketing Team not spending all their money on full page ads in Model Railway Enthusiast Monthly, we’ve got some great extras included. The prize in full is:
    - Silver service meal for two
    - Complimentary bar for two (not just a bar saying ‘you're looking slick’ – it's actual free booze!)
    - Celebrity Tipster (not all that important so we’re sandwiching it in the middle in the hope you'll quickly read on)
    - Paddy Power Goody Bag (see Celebrity Tipster)
    - Overnight accommodation in Bewley’s Hotel, Leopardstown (nicking the dressing gown optional)
    - A €200 free bet
    - €200 towards your travel expenses
To be in with your chance of winning, simply tell us who Santa and the two elves are in the picture below. It’s a jockey, a trainer and an owner and to give one small clue, they’ve all been in the news in the last week or so – for good things, rather than drug dealing or attacking Prince Charles and Camilla. Oh! It would be so easy if it wasn't for someone wanting to pull a cracker just as the photo was being taken! Oh well – best of luck.
Send your username and answer to competitions@paddypower.com. We can't give clues on the blog because it’s all wonky at the moment, so check our Paddy’s Little Helper facebook page for updates and maybe a few hints. If you're not confident, don't worry, have a few goes at it.
    blog_x-mas_comp.jpg
You’ve got until midday on Tuesday 21st December to enter. In the highly likely event that we get more than one correct answer, the winner will be drawn at random. The Paddy Power decision is final.

Thanks, Mossy - seems to be that way all right.

I'm cautious because I got caught a couple of times by those premium numbers when I entered contests by text.

    Hi,

I'm one of the creators of this game, and I can assure you that you won't get sent any premium rate texts or anything of the sort as a result of joining this game. You don't actually need to provide your mobile number when you sign up.

Mossy's right, we just ask for your mobile number (optionally) so we can contact you about collecting prizes. (A few of the prizes were for an event this weekend and we needed to ring one guy about collecting tickets after we couldn't reach him by email.)

The 3rd party charges refer only to potential broadband data charges that your mobile phone carrier could impose on you if you don't have an inclusive plan. But most people do have data bundles so this is probably a non-issue unless you have an unlocked phone on a basic prepay plan for example.

Someone raised the same concerns on Twitter the other day and we gave a similar reply:

    http://twitter.com/findcopan/status/15110569438748672
    http://twitter.com/findcopan/status/15110287053037571

    Hope this clarifies things!

    Cheers,
    Brian
