Sorry to hear about those who failed this, i certainly know how ya'll feel.
Got 50% in P6 this morning after failing it with 49% in December.
So am certainly a lucky boy & chuffed to bits :)

Hope everyone else was as lucky as me.

Just P2 to do now and have to decide where to do it now.

    P

    p.s.
Examiner is a f****n weapon of the highest order!!!!
I would strongly advise to steer clear as the past papers are no help & the examiner is completely unpredictable. Plus she adds unnecessary complexity to all exams making things so so difficult before ya even get into all the detail with the question, which is the minutia from the course that the lecturers havent got time to go through.

I would attribute absolutely no fault to the lecturers & would like to thank Mel for all the work he put in with the class.
Its a 14 week part time course, yet she's expecting a near tax specialist.
Mad that the ACCA P6 is the only closed book tax exam at this level!!

No point whatsoever the recheck fee is a money making scam by acca.

I asked to get one rechecked before cause failed by couple of percent I have really bad handwriting so would have liked to see the paper.

I paid the 80 quid or whatever it is to get a recheck and got a letter saying we have rechecked your paper and you still failed.

I asked could I not see my paper and was told no ha ha what a waste of time

I heard that myself and was going to query it when I got 49 in December, but a few people said it was a waste of money so didnt bother.

Sat it this time and got 50, so game on :)

Best of luck to anyone getting a recheck.

There was one person on the forum who was thinking of a recheck after getting 50 tho as he / she was disappointed with the result

Pls remember it can go both ways and 50 is the same as 99 as far as Im concerned, both say pass on the email / piece of paper :)

Thinking of switching as well, was looking at the BPP site i think they only offer a 15% resit discount? Are you sure they offer a free class?

YES. there is a PASS GUARANTEE scheme.
You may take re-takers class FOC subject to T&Cs of course. The main conditions are: - your attendance must be 85+% [my attendance was 100% ;)]
    - you must do & submit any homework given by the lecturer [Tim Galvin never gave us any homework, he did actually, but we just discussed the answers in class ]

I think i am eligible for that, but i wouldnt bother to have the nightmare again. :)

Hi all, I am the OP on this thread so said I will update all.

I got 55% anyway so happy enough to have passed it at least. Saying that I am AITI qualified so surely should pass? Also 55% is a ****e enough mark, my lowest of the 10 ACCA exams I did (I am qualified now)

They were tough exams but managed to pass em all first time without attending lectures so they can't be too hard I suppose. Best of luck :o

I'm sure most on here would say that they actually ARE quite hard so achieving first time passes on all is no mean feat mozattack and one which shouldn't be belittled (if not for your own sake at least for everyone elses!).

I was also lucky enough to pass and finish but I would like to say to those on here who didn't that there was so much backlash after June from all of the P6 lecturers that there will inevitably be a review of how this paper is currently structured. Hopefully, if this is the case, it will be communicated in some way to exam-takers via lecturers (or other means), otherwise exam halls will be half-empty on December 6th.

Hopefully that examiner will have eased up a bit, think I am better prepared than last time but Monday week will tell.

Do you think you will find the 8% you need Santino?

I've put in alot of work (went back to do a class as well to refresh myself) so hopefully. I'm only getting the Friday before hand off to study so this weekend is crucial.

We just want a fair exam (they have been seriously lacking of late), it's up to ourselves after that I suppose.

Are you getting much time off Christy C?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭PabloIndentes

    Good luck everyone.

Hope it was fairer this time round.

Cant say I miss it, but was an interesting subject, pity about the actual exam.

    Fingers crossed.

Damn it why did I not try it again ha ha

The general consesus is that it was easier this time around. Apparently she was under pressure to ease up a bit as the pass rate was pathetic.

Think I might have got it this time around but time will tell.

Yeah i think she was under a lot of pressure, loads of people were put off doing P6 cos its so hard to pass, but hopefully this time we get through! :)

On a final note, I contacted the Irish ACCA office looking for the pass rates for the Irish variant P6 but was told that I would not be provided with that information. Does anyone know whether country specific pass rates have ever been published?

    Hi
Our lecture told us that June 10 pass rate was 32% and that the person who scored 2nd in ireland only got 62%!!

    If that's true it's ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭santino

I got 52% at my fourth time of asking. I thought I was never going to get it. That's me finished now.

    Congrats to everyone who passed.

    Hi guys,

I am looking for help with a decision to do either p6 or P5

i am not working at the moment and this will be my last exam

I;ve never worked in Practise but really liked the F6 tax and have done the IATI tax syllabus before as well.

I;ve read how awfully hard it is to pass the final P6 exam so had left this to last so i would be able to concentrate fully on it (esp in case i had gotten a job in the meantime, alas no)

So now i see Griffith are offering to do P5 , apparently due to the high failure rate in P6 and crossover between P3 and P5.

So my quandery is thus: Should i work hard (while i have the time) on P6 or do P5, whcih im sure also needs hard work but prehaps not as intense as P6? Is the crossover that much? Surely Acca would not let that happen.

As the aim is to get employment(industry or practice) ASAP, I am currently thinking that having an understanding of the tax system would benefit me more than P5, however after this hard slog of ACCA, I want to be finished in June just as much.

    Catch 22

Any feeback would be greatly appreciated!

The P6 paper actually had the highest pass rate of the option papers in December 2010 at 44% the P5 was 34%. You cannot assume that P5 will be the easiest exam 'past performance is no guarantee of future results' and all that

    Hi Onehorse

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I saw that the P5 pass rate was 34% and P6 was 45.

Its hard to judge what the Irish (or English speaking) pass rates would be. The impression I;ve always got is that the Irish ones would prob be much higher than the global...but specifically not so for P6?

Every Acca exam i;ve done required as much effort and committment than the other so I dont think Il;ve ever chosen an option based on % pass rate. But the reaction by Boards members and also by Griffith to think that this is the way to make the most money/ensure pass rates... can;t be ignored

I;ve looked at the P5 syllabus now and quickly read through the Pocket notes/open tuition to get a feel for it...the theory part seems pretty much ok...although the pilot paper looked very off putting to me (as in, where to I start?) Im sure with question practise that would be overcome.

    So, I;m now looking at pros/cons of P6 V P5 again..

    Decisions decisions decisions......
