Well, my name is Duggy so.....................yes :(

Is it pronounced lie-ah or lee-ah? I always thought lie-ah.

Lee-ah. Same as 'Leah,' which is the actual spelling on my passport.. changed it to 'Liah' when I was 10, I think, and kept it like that ever since unofficially. 'Leah' looks dull and is a bit biblical for an atheist like me. :p

i was walking through temple bar and all of a sudden someone walking by did a complete 180, pointed a finger at me and yelled 'MORDETH'

was kind of embarrassing

--edit

hrm
i always pronounced liah as lee-ah, but leah i always assumed to be lay-ah

Thank good I picked an actual name, so am not embarrassed by saying it.

Although I did sign off a work email recently using my boards name. I felt a bit dim.

My boards.ie name is my actual nickname since first year. I'm called it all the time so it doesn't embarrass me.

My email address was once boneyarsebogman@**.com. There was one day that someone rang my house phone and needed my email address to send on something. So I spelled it out to them. When I got to the .com, there was a silence on their end and then, "seriously?". I created a new email address that day.

Jesus, if people're having this much trouble with my first name, I'd hate to think of what they'd make of my surname.

All the time. I don't even know how to pronounce it. My username was supposed to be AnnyHall and 'sal' was supposed to be the start of my password. Damn enter button

Nope...

also went with "fra-dah"
also think leah > liah, but I guess it looks biblical :)

Long story short, I was discussing forums with a friend of mine today and mentioned boards.ie was probably the best. He said he used forums, too, and asked what was my username...I was little uneasy that he asked...but after I told him mine, I felt mortified, lol.

Have you ever said your username out loud and been embarrassed in a similar situation?

Mine's so badass that dudes spontaneously start doing pressups when they hear it.

It's not really something I can tell people IRL so easily but I can't change it now.
If you're ever at a boards beers the feeling of everyone exchanging usernames is a bit cringey. Cringier again that because you know their usernames it becomes much more difficult to remember their real names.

I would never in a million years have pronounced it in any way accept Lee-ah. Maybe this particular sample is particularly troubled with girls names starting with L :pac:

My name is geeky if people work it out. But I've never really been embarrassed to be geeky. Embarrassed if people found out I talk to "people on the Internet" though :D

Are you embarrassed as it involves you admitting you're from Kerry?

ok thats kind of embarrassing.....:o

I'm never that embarrassed. My user name doesn't bother me but the reason I picked it is lost back in the murky depths of the early 2000s. Also who wouldn't pronounce Liah as Lee-ah?!

I have but only because it seems that I'm the only person who pronounces it properly.
Fray-da. They say Frah-da.

You're WRONG.

(I also checked in French and German to be sure.)

Whenever I have a child, I'm going to baptise them with an exclamation mark at the end of their first name. EDWARD! Even better would be a question mark, I guess.

For some reason, I immediately imagined Bella shouting for her beau. And yes I hate Twilight.

Great idea though ;)
